What Shoeboxed is

Shoeboxed helps self-employed people and small businesses organize receipts, expenses, and business mileage into exportable digital records. Users can submit receipt photos, email forwards, digital uploads, or paper documents through a postage-paid Magic Envelope. Its phone app uses OCR to read receipt text, categorize expenses, and upload them to an account. The mobile app can log business trips by GPS in the background and send a daily summary for confirmation. Receipts and mileage can be exported and saved as IRS-ready records. Shoeboxed lists integrations including QuickBooks, Xero, Evernote, and Wave, among others. Its API can read and add receipts, categories, and account data; the CLI can list receipts, summarize category spending, retrieve mileage write-offs, and export a tax packet. A 30-day trial is listed, but there is no free plan. Starter costs $9 a month, billed monthly, for 30 digital scans per month, 20 paper scans per year, one Magic Envelope per year, unlimited mileage, and one user. Shoeboxed is available on Android, iOS, web, and through an API.
