In recent days, Xiaomi took the wraps off its latest creation, the Xiaomi MIX Fold 3, exclusively for the Chinese market. As the name implies, this marks the third iteration of the brand’s foldable phone lineup. Previous editions, the Mix Fold and Mix Fold 2, have been confined to China’s borders. The question on many minds is whether the Mix Fold 3 will venture beyond China. Daniel Desjarlais, Xiaomi’s Communications Director, has provided insight into this matter.
Confirming prior speculations, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 will, indeed, retain its exclusivity within China. Unlike Samsung, Huawei, and Motorola, who have expanded the reach of their foldable phone offerings, Xiaomi’s approach for this model remains inward-focused. This stands in contrast to Tecno, which introduced its Phantom V Fold foldable phone in multiple markets this year, as well as OPPO with its Find N2 Flip, and rumors of a global Find N3 launch.
Notably, OnePlus is poised to join the foldable market with the anticipated launch of the OnePlus Open in September. Similarly, Honor plans to unveil the Honor Magic V2 and another foldable device for the global market on September 1. As for Xiaomi’s global foray into foldable phones, indications suggest that this might become a reality by 2024.
For now, the Mix Fold 3 has already made its debut for purchase within China. Individuals outside China interested in acquiring the device can place a pre-order for $1,599 through Giztop, Xiaomi’s online store. The device is offered in three distinct shades: black, black fiber, and gold. Giztop presents buyers with three configurations to choose from: 12 GB RAM + 256 GB storage, 16 GB RAM + 512 GB storage, and 16 GB RAM + 1 TB storage. Shipping is set to commence on August 26.
