The Xiaomi 17 is now official, following its late September 2025 launch in China. This new device skips the 16 series naming to bring a high performance compact flagship to the market. It features the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and a large 7000mAh silicon carbon battery. The phone maintains a small 6.3 inch form factor, making it one of the most powerful compact devices available today. Xiaomi has also included a triple 50MP Leica camera system and an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor for better security.
Key Takeaways
- Processor: Runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for high speed.
- Battery: A 7000mAh silicon carbon cell provides long life in a thin body.
- Display: The 6.3 inch LTPO AMOLED screen reaches 3500 nits of brightness.
- Camera: Triple 50MP rear cameras use Leica optics for professional photos.
- Software: Ships with HyperOS 3 based on the Android 16 platform.
- Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Processor
The Xiaomi 17 is the first smartphone to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. This 3nm processor features an octa core design with speeds reaching 4.6 GHz. It uses the Adreno 840 GPU, which provides smooth performance for high end gaming and video editing. Users can choose between 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM. The storage options go up to 1TB using the UFS 4.1 standard for fast data transfers.

- Massive 7000mAh Silicon Carbon Battery
A major highlight of this device is the 7000mAh battery. Xiaomi uses silicon carbon technology to pack more energy into a smaller physical space compared to traditional lithium ion batteries. This allows the phone to stay thin while offering much longer usage times. The device supports 100W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging. It also offers 22.5W reverse wireless charging to power other small gadgets.
- Leica Triple 50MP Camera System
The photography setup includes three 50MP sensors tuned by Leica. The primary camera uses the Light Fusion 950 sensor with an f/1.67 aperture and optical image stabilization. This is paired with a 50MP ultra wide lens and a 50MP telephoto lens that offers 2.6x optical zoom. These cameras use Leica Summilux lenses to ensure high clarity and natural color reproduction in various lighting conditions.
