Redmi, renowned for its budget-friendly devices, recently introduced the Redmi 12C smartphone in India. Now, the brand is set to expand its numbered series with the upcoming release of the Redmi 12. The device has already made appearances in IMEI, FCC, and TKDN databases, and a recent leak has revealed its specifications and pricing for the European market.
According to a leak from the French publication Dealabs, the Redmi 12 will feature a plastic body and frame, with dimensions of approximately 168.60mm × 76.28mm × 8.17mm and a weight of around 199 grams. It will be powered by a substantial 5000mAh battery, supporting 18W fast charging out of the box. The phone will also include a USB Type-C port and a dual-SIM card slot.
On the front, the Redmi 12 is rumored to feature a tall 6.79-inch IPS TFT display with a Full HD+ resolution of 2460 × 1080 pixels. The screen offers a pixel density of 396 PPI and incorporates Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for enhanced protection against drops and scratches. Notably, the display will support refresh rates of up to 90Hz, thanks to Xiaomi’s AdaptiveSync technology, which allows for automatic switching between 30, 48, 60, or 90Hz based on the content being displayed.
Under the hood, the Redmi 12 is expected to house a MediaTek Helio G88 SoC. It is anticipated to come 4 gigs of RAM along with 128 GB of storage. Additionally, users will have the option to expand the storage capacity to up to 1TB using a microSD card.
In terms of cameras, the device is rumored to feature a triple-camera setup on the back. The primary sensor is reported to be a 50 MP lens with an f/1.8 aperture, accompanied by an 8 MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP macro sensor. This camera configuration offers versatility, notably including an ultra-wide angle lens which is often absent in smartphones within a similar price range. For selfies, an 8 MP front camera with an f/2.5 aperture is expected.
Other notable features of the Redmi 12 include dual speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a fingerprint scanner, and support for AI face recognition. The device is likely to come pre-installed with MIUI 13, based on Android 12.
