What Microsoft Sway is
Microsoft Sway is an interactive, web-based canvas for creating and sharing visual designs built from images, text, documents, videos, maps, and other content. Its design engine assembles material into a design users can modify, and Sways can be shared with customers or colleagues through a link. The service is available on the web, Android, and iOS; it can import PowerPoint files but cannot export to PowerPoint, and offline access is unavailable. Listed plans include tools for remixing designs, starting from a topic or document, closed captioning, audio recording, and view counts, as well as Accessibility View and Accessibility Checker. Users can add files from OneDrive or turn Word and OneNote content into a Sway. The free plan costs nothing and requires a Microsoft Account. Microsoft 365 Personal costs $9.99 a month, billed $9.99/month or $99.99/year, while Microsoft 365 Family costs $12.99 a month, billed $12.99/month or $129.99/year. Microsoft 365 Premium costs $19.99 a month, billed $19.99/month or $199.99/year. Since June 10, 2024, multimedia uploads are no longer supported; audio and video files can only be embedded.

Who it suits
Sway suits people creating and sharing visual designs from a web or mobile device, especially those using OneDrive, Word, or OneNote content. It requires an internet connection and is not suitable when PowerPoint export or multimedia uploads are needed.
Verdict
Sway combines an interactive design canvas with link sharing and support for content from Microsoft services. Its online-only access, lack of PowerPoint export, and multimedia upload limit are important workflow constraints.
