Ente Photos
Summary
Ente Photos is an end-to-end encrypted service for backing up and accessing photos across devices. Its apps encrypt photos and metadata on the device before upload, and can back up new images in the background. On-device AI recognizes faces and elements in photos to support natural-language search. Users can browse curated memories, share encrypted albums or browser links, and set a password or expiry for a link. Album owners can also let others contribute photos, including people using a browser link without an Ente account. Imports are documented for Google Photos, Apple Photos, Amazon Photos, and local storage; the desktop app supports incremental export. The free plan provides 10 GB and one replica. Paid plans start with Starter at 2.49 USD per month, which includes 50 GB; paid subscribers can share storage with up to five family members, each with a separate private space. Ente says it stores three encrypted copies across providers and EU locations, and offers human support. If a user loses both their password and recovery key while logged out of all devices, Ente says it cannot restore the account or data.
Who it is for
It suits people who want encrypted photo backup across Android, iOS, desktop, and web, with search, sharing, and import options. Family storage sharing is available to paid subscribers.
