On April 24, in Thiruvilwamala, Thrissur, Kerala, India, a tragic incident occurred where an eight-year-old girl named Adithyashree lost her life due to a mobile phone exploding in her hand. We stand with the family in this time of difficulty and hope to support them in any way possible. The matter is currently being investigated. We will work with the authorities to determine the actual cause of the incident and will support them in any required manner.”

Preliminary findings from a forensic team indicate that an eight-year-old girl named Adithyashree lost her life when her Redmi Note 5 Pro mobile phone reportedly overheated and exploded in her hand at 10:30 pm (local time) on April 24 in Thiruvilwamala, Thrissur, Kerala, India. The accident was not related to charging. The local police have collected debris from the scene and the forensic team will conduct a more detailed examination. Adithyashree sustained severe facial injuries, lost her right-hand fingers, and broke her palm as a result of the explosion.

Ashok Kumar, the father of the deceased child, stated that his daughter and grandmother were at home when the incident took place. According to the grandmother, the child was playing a game on her mobile phone while lying under a blanket. The grandmother left to get food from the kitchen, and upon returning, heard a loud explosion and found her granddaughter lying in a pool of blood. However, some reports suggest that the explosion may have occurred while the child was watching videos on the phone for an extended period.

The untimely death of the young girl has deeply saddened the local community, particularly her schoolmates and teachers. Ashok Kumar, a member of the Block Panchayat and the girl’s father, has called for a thorough investigation into the incident. The local police are currently investigating the case to determine the cause of the mobile phone’s malfunction. The collection of debris and detailed forensic examination of the device are expected to provide vital information regarding the events leading to the tragedy. As of now, there has been no official statement from Xiaomi regarding the incident.
