What tela is

tela is an agent-native team wiki that uses Atlas to generate cited documentation from Git repositories or Jira projects and refresh it as sources change. Its wiki supports block editing, collaboration, comments, version history, public sharing, backlinks, and Markdown import and export. Search combines keyword matching with vector similarity; AI answers cite source pages and can say when documentation does not cover a question. Agents can connect through a remote MCP connector for Claude and ChatGPT, with expiring read-only or read-write keys that can be restricted to one space. Claude and ChatGPT access is limited to the signed-in user's permissions. Atlas lists Git and Jira as source types and requires an LLM endpoint and embedder, included on hosted instances. Tela also includes spreadsheets with formulas and CSV/XLSX import and export, plus presentations exportable to PDF, PPTX or PNG. It can be self-hosted with Docker Compose under AGPL, using the customer's Postgres, disk and AI services. Every new account receives a 30-day Personal trial without requiring a card.

Good

  • Atlas can refresh documentation when sources change.
  • AI answers cite source pages.
  • MCP connector supports Claude and ChatGPT.
  • Self-hosted Community edition is open source.
  • 30-day trial requires no card.

Watch out

  • Organizations are admin-provisioned, not open self-service signup.
  • Social login is not yet wired up.
  • Self-hosted Community edition is self-supported.

Who it suits

tela may suit teams documenting information from Git or Jira and connecting AI agents to that knowledge. It also offers a self-hosting path for customers who want to run the open-source Community edition on their own server.

Verdict

tela combines source-linked team documentation with agent access, search and additional productivity tools. Consider its admin-provisioned signup and support model, and confirm the relevant plan price and hosting approach before adopting it.
