Talos Linux
Talos Linux is an immutable operating system designed specifically for Kubernetes.
What Talos Linux is
Talos Linux is an immutable operating system designed specifically for Kubernetes. It has no SSH, shell or package manager; node interaction instead uses a secured gRPC API with mutual TLS. The system has a 100MB footprint and fewer than 50 binaries. Machine state is declared, and Talos upgrades the operating system and Kubernetes together in an atomic image that can be rolled back. Security features include CIS hardening, mutual TLS, SELinux and trusted boot. Talos runs on cloud platforms, bare metal, virtualized systems, single-board computers, and local Docker or QEMU environments, with amd64 and arm64 support. It is free and open source under the Mozilla Public License 2.0 and does not collect telemetry. Talos Omni manages cluster provisioning, upgrades, configuration and backups, with SaaS and self-hosted options. The free plan includes community support. Talos Enterprise Linux costs $1,000 per node per year with a 10-node minimum and includes Omni, 24/7/365 support and FIPS 140-3 builds.
