What Kubus is
Kubus is a free, open-source Kubernetes GUI that runs locally and brings cluster resources, logs, terminals, port forwarding, metrics, and Helm management into one desktop app. It can combine selected kubeconfig contexts in merged lists, with a cluster column to show where each resource belongs. Alongside built-in Kubernetes resource types, it discovers custom resource definitions live. For troubleshooting, Kubus streams logs from multiple pods and offers container terminals, ephemeral debug containers, and node shells. It supports browsing, installing, upgrading, rolling back, and uninstalling Helm releases without a Helm binary. Kubus uses existing kubeconfig credentials and supports GKE, EKS, and AKS through their credential plugins, as well as SSH jump hosts and SOCKS or HTTP proxies. The local server binds to 127.0.0.1; Secret values are redacted by default. Kubus says it has no cloud, account, or telemetry. It is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux, but new releases no longer support Intel Macs. Metrics and health charts require metrics-server in the cluster.
Good
- Combines selected kubeconfig contexts in merged lists.
- Streams logs from multiple pods.
- Manages Helm releases without a Helm binary.
- Redacts Secret values by default.
- Free and open-source, with no paid tiers stated.
Watch out
- Metrics charts require metrics-server in the cluster.
- New releases no longer support Intel Macs.
- Access follows configured kubeconfig permissions.
Who it suits
Kubus suits Kubernetes users who want a local graphical interface for resource management, debugging, and Helm tasks. It may be useful to people working across multiple kubeconfig contexts or connecting through proxies.
Verdict
Kubus puts cluster browsing, debugging, and Helm controls in a local desktop app, with support for multiple contexts and several connection methods. Check the Intel Mac and metrics-server limitations against your setup.
