CognoDB
CognoDB is a managed graph database for storing nodes and relationships and traversing connections with millisecond queries.
What CognoDB is
CognoDB is a managed graph database for storing nodes and relationships and traversing connections with millisecond queries. It uses Bolt and Cypher, supports Bolt 5.0–5.4, and accepts official Neo4j drivers without modification. The engine provides native relationships, variable-length traversal, ACID transactions, full-text search, and provenance on every edge. Imports can come from Amazon S3, Google Cloud Storage, Azure Blob Storage, BigQuery, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, Apache Kafka, Apache Spark, Delta Lake, Apache Iceberg, CSV, and Parquet. Its MCP server exposes schema inspection and Cypher queries to clients including Claude, Cursor, Windsurf, Cline, Zed, JetBrains, Warp, and Gemini CLI. Daily encrypted snapshots are retained, and restores create new instances. Deleted instances remain with a final snapshot for 30 days. It does not provide vector search or embeddings.
Good
- Bolt 5.0–5.4 and Cypher support
- Neo4j drivers connect without modification
- ACID transactions and full-text search
- Daily encrypted snapshots
- Free plan needs no card
Watch out
- No vector search or embeddings
- Managed cloud service only
- Single-region deployment
- Deleted instances are permanently removed after 30 days
Who it suits
It suits teams building graph-backed recommendations, fraud detection, dependency chains, identity resolution, or agent memory. Neo4j-compatible drivers and MCP clients support application and AI workflows.
Verdict
CognoDB offers managed graph storage with familiar Bolt and Cypher interfaces, imports, backups, and AI-client access. Choose it when graph traversal matters more than vector search or self-hosting.
