Xiaomi partners with Airtel to support 5G connectivity on all its 5G-compatible phones in India

Xiaomi India announced it has entered into a partnership with Airtel to ensure seamless 5G connectivity on all of its devices sold in the country. It was just this month that 5G services were introduced in the country. Bharti Airtel has also gone on record to be the first company to offer 5G services in India. The service is however available only in select regions or cities in India as of now, which includes Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, and Bangalore. Apart from these cities, the Airtel 5G internet service is also available in Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jamnagar, Lucknow, Pune, Siliguri, and Varanasi.

Xiaomi said it has been collaborating with Airtel to ensure all of its devices sold in the country are 5G-ready. That includes putting to test its devices so that they are able to offer optimum 5G internet connectivity at all times in the regions where the service has been launched. The company also revealed the list of phones that is now certified to be fully compatible with a 5G Airtel connection. Those include Xiaomi 12 Pro, Xiaomi 11T Pro, Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G, Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge, Xiaomi 11i. Compatible Mi phone include the Mi 11 Ultra, Mi 11X Pro, Mi 11X, Mi 10T Pro, Mi 10T, and Mi 10. Similarly, Redmi branded phone that are Airtel 5G ready include Redmi K50i, Redmi 11 Prime 5G, Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G, Redmi Note 11T 5G, and Redmi Note 10T 5G.

Airtel also said its 5G service is based on the NSA structure, which means there is no need to insert a standalone 5G SIM into the phone to access 5G networks. Here is what you need to do to connect to Airtel 5G networks using a Xiaomi or Redmi phone.

  1. Go to Settings and tap on SIMs.
  2. Select 5G (recommended).
  3. From the list of preferred network types given, Select 5G or 5G/4G/3G from the list to connect to a 5G network.

If all of the above seems too tech-centric, here is a simpler way to connect to 5G networks.

  1. Just type the code *#*#*4636*#*#* in the phone dialer.
  2. You will be taken to the phone information page where the various networks are given.
  3. Here, select “NR only” or “NR/LTE”.
  4. This will let you connect to 5G networks easily.

This way, you will be able to enjoy considerably faster download and upload speeds as well as a more stable internet connection as well.
