Redmi Note 8 Pro is among the handful of phones that are powered by a MediaTek chip. In fact, for the Redmi Note 8 Pro both Xiaomi and MediaTek joined hands to co-develop the MediaTek Helio G90T processor. The G90T is an octa-core unit and is aimed to target the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G. Since its launch last year, the phone has been tremendously popular among gamers for the amount of graphics power the phone delivers at a fraction of cost. It was also the first budget phone from Xiaomi to come with a 64MP camera sensor on-board.
In this post, we will guide you through the process to unlock bootloader of Redmi Note 8 Pro smartphone. But first, let us see the reason why Xiaomi opted for locking the bootloader.

Why is Bootloader Locked on Xiaomi Phones?
Xiaomi has encouraged its users to tinker with their products in the past but has come at a cost. The brand in recent times has been fighting off people in the grey market selling Mi/Redmi phones with unofficial ROMs containing bloatware. To mitigate this, the easiest solution for them was to lock the bootloader.
The other reason was to give the user option to track their phones in case of theft. Locking the bootloaders helps in making sure that a custom ROM is not easily flashed onto the phone. Hence making it difficult to sell off these stolen phones.
