What SpecLayer is
SpecLayer provides SpecDoc for managing OpenAPI specifications as code, applying governance in CI/CD, and publishing developer portals. Every successful pipeline publish creates an immutable, sequentially numbered specification version. SpecDoc compares each new version with the previous one and labels changes as breaking or non-breaking. Governance can use off, standard, or strict modes, with custom rules defined in a repository YAML file. Portals include versioned documentation, search, an interactive API explorer, OpenAPI export, and generated cURL, JavaScript, Python, and Go snippets. Portals may be private, protected, or public, and explorer requests go directly from the visitor’s browser to the API server. Pipeline examples cover GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, GitLab CI, Jenkins, CircleCI, and Bitbucket Pipelines. The CLI runs through npx or a global install; the documentation says Node.js 18+ is available on major hosted CI runners. The free Trial includes one API spec but no developer portal. Pro costs $29 a month per seat, while Enterprise pricing is custom.
