What Portabase is

Portabase is an open-source, self-hosted tool for automating database backups and on-demand restores. It supports PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, Redis, Valkey, SQLite, Firebird, MSSQL Server, and Docker Volume. Backups can be started manually or scheduled with Cron syntax, and retention policies can use hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly GFS tiers, keep-last-N, or keep-for-X-days rules. Storage destinations include on-premise systems, S3-compatible services, Google Drive, Azure Blob Storage, Google Cloud Storage, SFTP, and Rclone backends. Notifications can go to email, Slack, Discord, Telegram, Ntfy, Gotify, or webhooks. Workspaces and member, admin, and owner roles support team access. The dashboard does not contact agents directly, so deployments do not need inbound ports opened where databases reside; documentation says backups are protected with AES-GCM encryption. Portabase also offers a REST API, MCP server, and CLI. Official tested deployment methods include CLI, Docker, Kubernetes, Coolify, Dokploy, and Unraid.
