What PineThink Redact is

PineThink Redact is a desktop app for finding and removing personal information from PDFs, Word documents, and scans. It detects details such as names, addresses, phone numbers, account and card numbers, dates of birth, and medical information, and lets users review each detection before removal. Custom terms can be added. Instead of covering text with a black rectangle, the app deletes sensitive text from the file’s content. Detection, review, and redaction happen on the user’s PC, and documents are not uploaded. Built-in OCR can read scanned files, including image-only PDFs. The free tier handles one document at a time for personal use and does not need an account. Premium costs $6.99 a month after a free 14-day trial; it adds folder-based batch redaction, saved settings, custom term lists, per-file audit reports, commercial use, and AI agent access through MCP. The app requires internet access for activation and occasional subscription checks, but works offline between those checks.
