Peer Global File Service
Peer Global File Service (PeerGFS) is software for replicating, managing, and synchronizing files across sites, platforms, clouds, and storage systems.
What Peer Global File Service is
Peer Global File Service (PeerGFS) is software for replicating, managing, and synchronizing files across sites, platforms, clouds, and storage systems. It copies changes in real time to support active-active file sharing, and distributed file locking is designed to prevent conflicts between mirrored systems. Delta-level replication transfers changed portions rather than entire files. PeerGFS supports SMB and NFS workloads, alongside Windows and Linux file servers, NetApp, Nutanix Files, Dell systems, and listed cloud targets such as Amazon S3 and Azure Blob. Microsoft DFS Namespace integration can unify SMB access across sites and support failover and failback. The product describes SSL-encrypted traffic up to AES-256, Active Directory-based role controls, and monitoring for suspicious file activity. Some functions have limits: edge caching is supported only for Windows file servers, and NFS jobs are limited to replication and synchronization. Pricing is available on request; a trial request and guided proof of concept are offered. Peer Software says it began in 1993.
Good
- Replicates changes in real time across locations.
- Uses distributed file locking to limit conflicts.
- Transfers file changes rather than whole files.
- Integrates with Microsoft DFS Namespaces.
- Monitors file activity for suspicious patterns.
Watch out
- Pricing is available on request.
- Edge caching supports only Windows file servers.
- NFS excludes collaboration, namespace management, cloud backup, and edge caching.
Who it suits
PeerGFS is intended for distributed teams and enterprise environments managing multi-site, multi-platform, or hybrid multi-cloud file storage. It may suit organizations that need replication, synchronization, and failover across storage systems.
Verdict
PeerGFS addresses file replication and synchronization across varied storage environments, with locking and failover capabilities. Check the NFS and edge-caching limits and request pricing to assess fit.
