What Besprited is

Besprited is a free, GPLv2 desktop application for creating and animating 2D sprites and pixel art on Linux, macOS, and Windows. Its timeline uses layers and frames, with onion skinning and real-time previews, and several sprites can be open at once. Drawing tools include a stabilized pencil, Shading Ink, custom brushes, RotSprite rotation, and layer blend modes. You can create or use palettes and draw repeating patterns with canvas tiling. Besprited opens and saves Aseprite .ase and .aseprite files, while also supporting GIF, PNG sequences, JSON sprite sheets, WebP, QOI, BMP, TGA, PCX, ICO, and FLI/FLC. Some newer Aseprite features are not supported. JavaScript scripting and themes with custom fonts are available. Releases include AppImage, .deb, .rpm, and .tar.gz packages. Packages are GPG-signed, but Windows executables are not code-signed and macOS builds are self-signed.
