What Appligent Redax is
Appligent Redax is a Windows desktop plug-in for Adobe Acrobat that permanently removes sensitive text, graphics, and images from PDF files. Information removed with Redax cannot be recovered, according to Appligent. The plug-in can automatically find and mark Social Security numbers, phone numbers, dates, URLs, email addresses, word lists, and phrases, including matches split across lines. Custom regular expressions are supported. After review, Redax can remove marked content, document metadata, annotations, and bookmarks. Built-in exemption codes cover the U.S. Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act, with customizable exemption-code palettes. Redax can generate redaction reports for record keeping and may integrate with document management systems. Appligent says redactions can be completed without a mouse and provides a VPAT link. It is listed for Windows 10 and higher with Acrobat DC 32-bit or 64-bit, but does not work inside free Adobe Reader. A free trial download is available.
