Xiaomi’s highly anticipated 14 series of flagship smartphones are poised to retain the impressive 1-inch primary camera sensor in its upcoming devices, according to recent reports. However, it seems that the much-discussed 1.33-inch sensor, which should not be confused with the 1/1.33-inch variant, is still in the research and development phase, adding an element of anticipation to its potential future release.
A noteworthy observation from Digital Chat Station highlights Nubia’s 35mm primary camera and its innovative algorithm, which has showcased superior performance in certain aspects when compared to the 1-inch sensor. The introduction of the Sony IMX989 1-inch sensor in late 2022 with the Xiaomi 12S Ultra marked a significant milestone in smartphone technology. Throughout 2023, the adoption of the 1-inch sensor has been on the rise, with various Xiaomi models, including the Xiaomi 13 Pro and Xiaomi 13 Ultra, as well as devices from other manufacturers like the OPPO Find X6 Pro and vivo X90 Pro+, incorporating this cutting-edge sensor. Sony and Sharp have also joined the trend, integrating 1-inch sensors into their own devices.
Regarding Xiaomi’s release plans, it seems that the company will deviate from its usual pattern of launching new “S” suffix variants in the latter half of the year. Speculations indicate that the forthcoming flagship from Xiaomi could be the highly anticipated Xiaomi 14 series, consisting of three models: the Xiaomi 14, Xiaomi 14 Pro, and Xiaomi 14 Ultra. It is expected that each of these devices will be unveiled at separate events, further building excitement and anticipation among tech enthusiasts and Xiaomi fans alike.
