AI music usually sounds tinny, muddy, or flat because the generated mix has unbalanced frequencies, masked parts, weak dynamics, or excessive processing. Fix the mix before turning up the master: identify the offending stem, make a small EQ or level change, then use a mastering pass with gain-matched comparisons.
What Tinny, Muddy, And Flat Mean
Tinny Sound
Tinny audio has too much upper-mid or treble energy and too little body. Vocals may feel sharp, cymbals brittle, and instruments lightweight. Check whether the problem exists in one stem before changing the whole mix.

Mud is overlapping low-mid energy. Bass, kick, lower vocals, pads, and guitars can occupy the same space, making lyrics and rhythm hard to follow. Lower the competing stem slightly or reduce its crowded low-mid range.
Flat Sound
A flat track has little contrast between loud and soft sections, narrow stereo movement, or weak transients. Heavy limiting and over-compression can remove the punch that makes drums and bass feel separate.

Fix The Source Before Mastering
- Export the AI song and, when available, separate vocals, bass, drums, and instruments. Loudly describes stem exports for remixes, while Sauce Mastering AI and Auralith Forge describe stem-aware processing. Check each vendor’s current export terms before relying on stems.
- Listen at a moderate phone volume on your Xiaomi, Redmi, or POCO. Note the first problem: sharp vocal consonants, covered kick, blurred bass, or a chorus that never lifts.
- Mute stems one at a time. If the harshness or muddiness disappears when one part is muted, repair that part instead of boosting the master.
- Make one small change at a time: reduce excessive brightness on the harsh stem, lower competing low-mid energy, or ease compression that has removed attack.
- Compare the original and revised mix at matched loudness. A louder version can seem clearer even when it is less balanced.
- Only then upload the finished stereo mix to a mastering service. Keep the unmastered file so you can reject a version that sounds louder but less natural.

How To Choose The Right Pass
When You Have Separate Stems
Use Ozone, Auralith Forge, Sauce Mastering AI, or MasterForge when the harshness or mud is isolated to vocals, bass, drums, or instruments. Process the offending stem first, then compare the full mix.
When You Only Have A Stereo File
Use RoEx, AudioMuse, Mixea, T&R AI Mastering Tool, or Vesta Music Mastering for a finished stereo mix. These services cannot give you the same per-stem correction, so return to the generator or DAW when one element remains wrong.
