Who Owns AI-Generated Music? A Guide For Xiaomi, Redmi And POCO Users

A service may license you to use an AI-generated track without giving you copyright in the music itself. Here is how to separate copyright, commercial permissions, and your own creative contribution before publishing from a Xiaomi, Redmi, or POCO phone.

There is no single answer to who owns AI-generated music. In the United States, a track created entirely by AI generally cannot be copyrighted under the U.S. Copyright Office’s guidance; a prompt alone does not make the prompter its author. A music service may still give you a license or say you own a track under its terms, but that is not the same as the track qualifying for copyright protection. Only the human-authored parts of a mixed work may be protected. The U.S. Copyright Office’s AI report also says applicants must disclose more than a minimal amount of AI-generated material and describe the human author’s contribution when registering a work.

What “Ownership” Means For An AI-Generated Song

People use “ownership” to mean different things: copyright in the music, permission to use or sell a track, or control under a service’s terms. Those can lead to different answers. A service’s commercial license may let you use a track in a monetized video, for example, without establishing that you hold copyright in the AI-generated composition itself.

The Copyright Office guidance cited here is specific to the United States. Rules can differ elsewhere, and the legal treatment of AI-generated music is still developing. Check the law where you live and the current terms for the service and plan you use.

What You Add Can Matter

A prompt such as “make a mellow electronic track for a phone video” describes a desired result; under the U.S. Copyright Office’s guidance, a prompt alone does not make you the author. Human-authored lyrics or musical material may be treated differently from material generated by AI. The Office says only the human-authored parts of a mixed work can be protected, and its registration guidance calls for disclosure and a description of the human contribution when AI-generated material is more than minimal.

For a more clearly documented creative contribution, write original lyrics or music yourself, keep drafts, and record which parts you created and which the system generated. These steps do not guarantee copyright protection; they help distinguish your contribution if you later need to describe it.

How The Terms Of Music Services Differ

These examples show why a service’s words about ownership, licensing, and commercial use should be read separately. Confirm the current plan terms before publishing, especially if you created the track on a free plan.

Service What The Supplied Terms Say Practical Reading
Suno Suno says songs created as a paid subscriber are yours to keep and use, including in videos or an album. Its Pro plan has full commercial rights; the Free Plan does not include commercial rights. The paid-plan language grants broad use, but it does not override the U.S. Copyright Office’s position on copyright in entirely AI-generated work.
Musicful Musicful says it retains ownership of generated tracks and gives downloaders a non-exclusive, perpetual license for content such as videos, podcasts, and audiobooks, including monetization. This is a clear example of receiving a usage license without owning the track under the service’s stated terms. Its product listing says commercial use is limited to Standard and Pro plans.
Tunee Tunee says generated songs belong to users and says paid subscribers receive full commercial licenses. Free users may use music for personal projects with attribution. It also says AI copyright law is evolving and it cannot guarantee copyright protection. Its stated ownership and commercial license are service terms; the service itself cautions that copyright protection is not guaranteed.
AISongGen AISongGen says paid plans include a commercial license and each export receives a per-track license keyed to the account. Its site says free users can create and listen, while paid plans are needed to download, publish, and monetize. Check that the export and plan you use carry the license before publishing or monetizing.
Ecrett Music Ecrett says its music can be used in games, monetized videos, podcasts, and ads, and that the license applies to the individual. It says the music is intended to be added to content, not edited or distributed as a music file. Its stated license is aimed at using music within content, not releasing the track by itself.
Beatoven.ai Beatoven says it delivers a license for monetizing content with every download. It also says musicians receive equitable compensation when they contribute music to its service. The supplied information establishes a content-monetization license, not ownership of the generated track. Check the license delivered with your download for its scope.

A Practical Phone Workflow Before You Publish

If you create on a Xiaomi, Redmi, or POCO phone, keep the prompt and project records somewhere you can retrieve them, such as a notes file alongside the exported audio. Suno and Musicful list Android availability; Tunee lists iOS and macOS, but its supplied product details do not establish Android availability. For other services, check the vendor’s site for phone support. The example prompts below describe creative intent; they do not guarantee a particular output or copyright status.

  1. Decide what you need rights for. Note whether you plan to post a personal video, monetize a channel, use a track in an ad, or distribute the song as music. The allowed use can depend on the service and plan.
  2. Write down your human contribution. For example, keep your own lyric draft or melody notes, plus the generated version and any changes you made. A prompt example might be: “Use these original lyrics I wrote; create a gentle, low-energy backing track for a short travel clip.” The prompt itself does not establish authorship.
  3. Check the service and plan terms before export. Save the applicable license or terms and confirm that your intended use is covered. If a detail, such as whether a specific use is allowed, is not clear, ask the vendor.
  4. Check voices, covers, and uploaded material. Use a real person’s voice or likeness only with their consent and in line with the service’s terms. Upload only audio or lyrics you have permission to use, and check the service’s terms for samples, covers, and voice cloning. The supplied facts do not establish a blanket permission for those uses.
  5. Keep the license with the finished file. Store the export, the service and plan used, the date, and any license or attribution instructions together. If you later register a work in the United States and it includes more than a minimal amount of AI-generated material, disclose it and describe your human-authored contribution as the Copyright Office requires.

What A Commercial License Does Not Settle

A commercial-use claim answers what a service says you may do under its terms; it does not by itself establish that an AI-generated track is copyrightable, that you can stop others from making similar tracks, or that every voice, lyric, sample, or reference you used was authorized. Where a service’s terms or a right-holder’s consent are unclear, check before release. For a legal decision about a particular track, consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
