YouTube has a built-in loop command, so you normally do not need an extension, third-party website, or special URL. On a computer, start the video, right-click inside the player, and choose Loop. In the Android, iPhone, or iPad app, open Settings → Additional settings → Loop video. On a smart TV or game console, open the playback controls, choose Repeat, and select Repeat • Currently playing. The steps below also explain playlist looping, repeating one item in a playlist, troubleshooting missing controls, and the separate method for embedded players.
Which looping method should you use?
Choose the instructions for the place where the video is actually playing. A YouTube watch page, the mobile app, a TV or console app, and a cast session can expose different controls.

| Use case | Current control path | Result | How to stop it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Computer, one video | Right-click the player → Loop | The current video repeats continuously | Right-click again and select Loop |
| Android phone or tablet | Settings → Additional settings → Loop video | The current video repeats | Return to the same control and turn it off |
| iPhone or iPad | Settings → Additional settings → Loop video | The current video repeats | Return to the same control and turn it off |
| Computer playlist | Open the playlist panel → Loop | The playlist repeats | Use the playlist’s Loop control again |
| Mobile playlist | Play the playlist → playlist controls → Loop | The playlist repeats | Turn off the playlist Loop control |
| One video inside a playlist | Select Loop again until a 1 appears in the loop icon | Only the current item repeats | Select the loop control to leave that mode |
| Smart TV or game console | Press down on the remote or controller → Repeat → Repeat • Currently playing | The current video repeats | Open Repeat and change it to an off state |
These paths and labels come from YouTube’s current viewer instructions for videos and playlists. YouTube can change layouts or test different labels, so a control may appear in a slightly different position on your device.
Before you start
Use the ordinary YouTube watch page or the official YouTube app whenever possible. A video playing inside another website, a school or workplace player, or a presentation wrapper may not expose YouTube’s native menu. Start playback first; some controls remain hidden until the player is active, and on a phone you may need to tap the picture once to reveal them.

Looping is a playback command, not a download feature. The video must remain available to the player, and a network interruption, app suspension, casting disconnect, or content restriction can stop playback even when the loop mode is still selected.
How do you loop a YouTube video on a computer?
The desktop website’s fastest method is the player’s context menu. You do not need to create a playlist or install an extension.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Open the video’s normal YouTube watch page.
- Start playback.
- Right-click directly inside the video player.
- Select Loop.
When the video reaches its end, YouTube starts the same video again. To disable the setting, right-click inside the player and select Loop again. YouTube documents this procedure in its computer-specific help page.
What if the first right-click opens my browser menu?
Right-click at another point inside the video image rather than on a page margin or control outside the player. If the browser menu still appears, try a second right-click, leave full-screen mode, and reload the watch page. A private window or another supported browser can reveal whether an extension is intercepting the player’s context menu.
How do you loop a YouTube video in the Android app?
Use the player settings, not the YouTube account settings.
- Open the YouTube app and play the video.
- Tap Settings in the video player.
- Tap Additional settings.
- Tap Loop video.
The app should repeat that video after it ends. The exact placement of Settings can vary with screen size, app layout, account experiments, and app version. YouTube’s documented mobile path is available on its Android help view.
How do you loop a YouTube video on an iPhone or iPad?
The current iOS procedure uses the same mobile menu documented by YouTube:

How do you repeat an entire YouTube playlist?
Playlist looping repeats each item in sequence and then starts the playlist again. It is different from looping one standalone video.
On a computer
- Open a video that belongs to the playlist.
- Expand the playlist panel beside the player.
- Click the playlist’s Loop control.
On a phone or tablet
- Start playing the playlist.
- Find the playlist control box below the video.
- Tap Loop.
If you want only one item to repeat, do not leave the control in playlist mode. Select the loop control again until a 1 appears in the center of the icon. YouTube uses that indicator to show that the current video, rather than the full playlist, will repeat. A video URL that includes playlist information can open in a playlist context, so opening the video’s standalone watch page is often clearer when you need one-item looping.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Playlist mode versus one-video mode
The icon is easy to misread because both modes use a circular-arrow symbol. A plain loop state generally repeats the playlist, while the small 1 identifies repeat-current-video mode. If the next item starts when the video ends, you are still in playlist playback. Stop playback, open the standalone watch page, or select the control again until the indicator matches what you want.
How do you loop a video on a smart TV or game console?
The TV and console apps use a Repeat command rather than the computer’s right-click menu.
- Play the video in the YouTube TV or console app.
- Press down on the remote or game controller to open playback controls.
- Select Repeat.
- Continue selecting it until the label reads Repeat • Currently playing.
For a complete playlist, choose Repeat • Playlist instead. These controls belong to the native TV or console app. If you started playback by casting from a phone, the control may be located on the receiving device or may not match the phone’s menu; use the app that is actually handling playback.
What should you do when the Loop option is missing?
An absent control does not necessarily mean YouTube removed looping. Platform, layout, app version, playlist context, and playback state all affect what is shown.

Desktop troubleshooting
- Confirm that you are on the normal YouTube watch page, not a third-party embedded player.
- Right-click directly inside the video area.
- If the browser menu appears, try a second right-click at a different point in the player.
- Exit full-screen mode and try again.
- Reload the page.
- Temporarily disable extensions that change YouTube’s player or context menu.
- Try a private window or another supported browser.
- Check whether the video is playing in a restricted, embedded, or managed environment.
Changing the URL should not be the first fix; the built-in player control is simpler for an ordinary watch page.
Mobile troubleshooting
- Tap the video once so the player controls appear.
- Open the player’s Settings, not the general account settings.
- Look under Additional settings.
- Make sure the video is on a standard watch screen rather than only inside a playlist panel.
- Update YouTube through the device’s official app store.
- Force-close and reopen the app.
- Try the YouTube website in a mobile browser if the app layout does not expose the option.
- For a playlist, use the playlist’s own Loop control.
When a loop stops unexpectedly
Separate a disabled loop setting from an interrupted playback session. A network drop, background-app suspension, battery-saving restriction, disconnected casting session, or a switch to another video can stop playback. The video itself may also have been removed, made private, age-restricted, or restricted in your region. Reopen the player, confirm the loop mode, and then check connectivity and the video’s availability.
Can you loop only part of a YouTube video?
The standard YouTube Loop control repeats the complete video. The normal viewer interface does not provide a general start-and-end-point selector for repeating a custom segment.
Partial looping therefore requires a separate implementation, such as a browser tool, another web player, or a custom embedded player. Treat those options as optional: they can change with browser compatibility, privacy practices, availability, and YouTube’s terms. Do not install one merely to repeat an entire video, because YouTube’s own control handles that job.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsHow can a website or kiosk loop one embedded video?
Developers using YouTube’s IFrame Player API have a documented method that is separate from the normal watch-page menu. Set loop=1 and set the playlist parameter to the same video ID:
https://www.youtube.com/embed/VIDEO_ID?loop=1&playlist=VIDEO_ID
The repeated video ID in playlist is required for single-video looping in the documented embedded-player method. This is suitable for a website, presentation, kiosk, or custom player; it is not a replacement for the computer and mobile instructions above. See YouTube’s IFrame Player API player-parameter documentation, updated April 28, 2026, for the embed syntax.
What is the difference between Loop and Autoplay?
Loop replays the current video or playlist. Autoplay lets YouTube choose and play another video after the current one ends. Turning Autoplay off does not turn Loop on, and turning Loop on does not give YouTube permission to select a recommendation.

Does looping require a Google account?
On the desktop website, sign-in is not part of YouTube’s documented right-click procedure, so the built-in command is generally available directly from the player. Account authentication, age restrictions, regional limits, and device-specific requirements can still affect playback elsewhere. A TV app may also require its own sign-in or activation before the video can play, even though the Repeat command itself is free.
Does looping use extra mobile data?
Each replay is another stream. Extended looping can therefore consume additional bandwidth, with the amount affected by video length, resolution, compression, buffering, ads, device, and network conditions. YouTube does not promise that a repeated video is downloaded once and replayed locally. On a metered connection, lower the playback quality or use Wi-Fi if repeated viewing would otherwise consume more data than expected.
Does looping remove or prevent ads?
No. Loop is a playback setting, not an advertising control. Ad delivery and other playback behavior can differ by viewer, video, account, subscription status, region, device, and YouTube’s current policies. A loop may therefore include normal playback interruptions; it should never be treated as an ad-blocking feature.
Why did my loop stop even though I enabled it?
Playback can be interrupted independently of the loop setting. Check the network, whether the app was suspended, battery-saving restrictions, casting status, and whether the video is still available to your account and region. If you changed videos or playlists, reopen the desired item and verify its loop control again. A loop continues only while the player can keep obtaining and playing that content; it is not a guarantee of uninterrupted playback forever.
Can I loop a video while casting?
Casting transfers playback to another device, so the phone’s controls may not be identical to the controls on the TV or streaming receiver. If Repeat is available, set it in the YouTube app that is rendering the video. If the receiving app does not expose a repeat mode, disconnect casting and use the native TV or console app, or play the video directly on the computer or phone.
How do I choose the right looping method?
- Computer: use right-click → Loop; it is the shortest path and needs no extension.
- Android, iPhone, or iPad: use the app’s Settings → Additional settings → Loop video menu.
- Smart TV or console: use Repeat • Currently playing in the device app.
- Several videos: use the playlist’s Loop control.
- One item in a playlist: select Loop again until the icon shows 1, or open the video outside the playlist context.
- A custom segment: the native control is insufficient; use a separately maintained tool or a developer implementation only when its compatibility and terms suit your situation.
- A kiosk or embedded page: use the IFrame Player API parameters rather than editing an ordinary watch-page URL.
How do you turn looping off?
Use the same control that enabled it. On desktop, right-click the player and select Loop again. In the mobile app, return to Settings → Additional settings → Loop video. On a TV or console, open Repeat and change the current-video or playlist mode to an off state where available. For playlists, turn off the playlist’s Loop control explicitly so a later playback session does not inherit an unexpected repeat mode.
For most viewers, the answer is simply to use YouTube’s native control: right-click Loop on a computer, choose Loop video in the mobile player’s Additional settings, or select Repeat • Currently playing on a TV or console.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I loop a YouTube video while it is downloaded for offline viewing?
The documented Loop controls apply to YouTube’s online players. Offline-download playback can have different controls and availability depending on the app, account, region, and download status, so do not assume that the online loop setting carries over.
Will a loop continue if I lock my phone?
Not necessarily. Background playback, screen-lock behavior, battery optimization, and account features can interrupt playback independently of the Loop setting. If the video stops after locking the screen, check the app’s playback permissions and device power settings.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Can I loop a private or age-restricted video?
Only if the account and device are allowed to play that video. Privacy, age, regional, and managed-device restrictions can prevent playback even when the loop control itself is available.
Is looping the same as putting a song on repeat in YouTube Music?
No. YouTube’s video-player Loop control repeats a video or playlist in the YouTube service. YouTube Music has its own playback interface and repeat behavior, which may use different controls and account rules.
Can I loop without paying for YouTube Premium?
Yes. Standard single-video and playlist looping uses YouTube’s built-in controls and does not require a paid extension, app, or subscription. Playback, ads, downloads, and background features can still vary by account, device, region, and subscription status.
Why does my playlist advance instead of repeating one video?
The loop control is probably set to repeat the playlist rather than the current item. Select it again until a small 1 appears in the center of the loop icon, or open the video on its standalone watch page.
Recommended Free Tools
Does a loop keep running forever?
It keeps requesting the video again while playback remains available and uninterrupted. Network loss, app suspension, battery restrictions, casting problems, content removal, or account and regional limits can stop it.
Can I use a URL trick on the normal YouTube watch page?
Do not rely on unofficial watch-URL patterns. For ordinary viewing, use the built-in player control. The documented URL parameters using loop=1 and playlist=VIDEO_ID are for an embedded IFrame player and require the same video ID in the playlist parameter.
The Bottom Line
Use YouTube’s native controls: Loop on a computer, Settings → Additional settings → Loop video in the mobile app, or Repeat • Currently playing on a TV or console. Use playlist looping for a sequence, and select the loop icon again until 1 appears when only one playlist item should repeat.
