Usually, you do not automatically own copyright in music made entirely by AI. The U.S. Copyright Office says fully AI-generated material is not copyrightable, prompts alone do not make you the author, and protection can cover only the human-authored parts of a mixed work. Your practical rights also depend on the service plan and license: some services grant commercial use, while free tiers may restrict it.
What “Rights” Can Mean For An AI Song

- Copyright: The U.S. Copyright Office says entirely AI-generated material is not copyrightable. Original lyrics, melodies, arrangements or edits you create may be protectable as human-authored contributions.
- Contractual permission: The generator’s plan may give you a license to use the output commercially, even when copyright ownership is limited.
- Third-party rights: A cloned voice, recognizable performance, uploaded sample or cover can involve another person’s or rightsholder’s permission. Use only material and voices you are authorized to submit, and read the platform’s current terms.
- Platform rules: Spotify supports AI disclosures in credits and says vocal impersonation is allowed only when the impersonated artist has authorized it. YouTube requires disclosure for realistic altered or synthetic content that could be mistaken for a real person’s performance.

These statements describe each service’s supplied terms, not a guarantee of copyright registration in every country. Save the plan name, invoice, license certificate and terms version with your project.
A Rights-Safer Phone Workflow
- Start with original material. On your Xiaomi phone, write your own lyrics or melody idea. Prompt for “an original instrumental with warm piano, restrained drums and a 90-second structure; no artist imitation, no recognizable sample.”
- Declare what you supplied. Keep the lyric file, your prompt, uploaded recordings and edit history. Do not upload a singer’s voice or a sample unless you have permission.
- Check the exact plan. Open the service’s current license page before downloading. Confirm commercial use, attribution, download status, stem terms and any restrictions on film, television, games or advertising.
- Add human authorship. Rewrite lyrics, arrange sections, record an original vocal or play an instrument, then retain those source files. The Copyright Office says only the human-authored parts of a mixed work can be protected, and applications containing more than a minimal amount of AI material must disclose it and describe the human contribution (U.S. Copyright Office AI report).
- Export and preserve evidence. Download the permitted file to your phone, keep the license or certificate beside it, and back up the project and receipts before posting.
- Label the release when required. For a realistic synthetic performance or impersonated voice, follow the destination’s disclosure rules. Spotify supports DDEX AI disclosures and says impersonation requires the artist’s authorization; YouTube requires its altered-or-synthetic content label for realistic content that could be mistaken for a real performance (Spotify AI policy announcement; YouTube policy clarification).

When You Should Pause Before Publishing
- The track uses a recognizable artist voice, a cover, or an uploaded sample whose permission you cannot document.
- The free plan says personal use, attribution, public posting or streaming-only playback.
- The service’s commercial scope excludes your destination, such as film, television or studio games.
- You cannot identify which parts you wrote, recorded or edited for a copyright application.
Practical Answer For Xiaomi Phone Owners
You can generally publish an AI-made track when the service’s current plan grants that use and you follow its attribution and disclosure rules.
