Overview

Stonly is a customer-service knowledge platform combining articles, interactive guides and AI Answers. It suits support teams that need to guide customers or employees through different resolution paths, rather than relying on static help articles alone. Its breadth is appealing, but view caps and the possibility of an automatic upgrade deserve close attention.

Key features

Guides in context

Step-by-step guides use choices to tailor instructions to a customer’s or employee’s situation. No-code triggers let teams embed them on web pages, help centers and web or mobile apps. This makes Stonly a fit for contextual troubleshooting and onboarding, though the Basic plan’s five published-guide cap will constrain teams that need a larger library.

Onboarding checklists, product tours and walkthroughs extend the guidance beyond support cases. The combination is useful when a team wants to handle both help and in-product instruction in one platform.

Knowledge management and AI

The knowledge base combines conventional articles with interactive guides, and includes analytics, versioning, rights management and multimedia content. AI Answers draws on structured, metadata-rich content to answer questions, surface relevant guides and support automated multi-step resolutions. That approach makes content structure important: teams looking for AI answers will need to maintain the underlying knowledge, not just publish articles.

Integrations include Zendesk, Salesforce, Freshworks, ServiceNow, Slack, Google Drive, Notion and Zapier, giving Stonly potential ties to both support systems and content repositories. Its Trust Center lists HIPAA, GDPR and a SOC 2 Type 2 report under compliance.

Pricing

Stonly uses a freemium model, with a free plan and a 14-day trial. New accounts start with a 14-day Small Business trial; if they do not upgrade, they move to Basic without charge.

Plan	What it includes	Best fit
Basic	400 guide views per month, 5 published guides, 1 language, 100 steps per guide and 1 team member	A solo user testing a small, single-language guide library
Small Business	4,000 guide views and 5 team members, with 1 knowledge base	A small support team sharing a knowledge base
Enterprise	Unlimited knowledge bases, SSO compatibility, private knowledge bases, help desk integrations, AI Agents, priority support and dedicated customer success	Organizations needing broader access controls, integrations or service

Basic’s one-seat limit and 400 monthly guide views make it a narrow free option; its five-guide and single-language caps further limit expansion. Small Business raises the view allowance and supports five team members, but remains capped at one knowledge base. Enterprise adds the clearest scale and support provisions, but has custom pricing.

Stonly says that if monthly guide views exceed a plan’s limit for two consecutive months, it will upgrade the account and give advance notice by email. That policy makes view tracking important, particularly for teams near a cap: budget for the possibility of a higher-tier charge rather than treating the limit as a hard stop.

Platforms

Stonly supports Android, iOS and web. Its guides can be embedded in web and mobile apps, while localization is also supported.

Who it's for

Stonly is best suited to customer-service teams that want a shared knowledge base, branching guides and contextual delivery, with room to add AI-assisted answers. It is less compelling for a solo publisher with growing traffic or a multilingual guide library: Basic has just one team member, 400 monthly views and one language, and the view-based upgrade policy can make growth costly. The Small Business plan accommodates a small team, but only one knowledge base.

Pros and cons

Pros: Interactive guides adapt instructions to users’ choices, making them more useful than a single fixed help path for varied cases.
Pros: Articles, guides, analytics, versioning and rights management sit in one knowledge platform, with AI Answers able to surface relevant guidance.
Pros: Android, iOS and web support, plus in-context delivery, localization and a broad set of named integrations, suit teams serving users across channels.
Cons: Basic allows only one team member, five published guides and 400 guide views per month, limiting its usefulness beyond a small pilot.
Cons: Exceeding a monthly view limit for two consecutive months triggers an upgrade after advance email notice, creating budget uncertainty for growing usage.
Cons: Small Business permits just one knowledge base, while Enterprise has custom pricing.

Alternatives

For product analytics paired with in-app guides, Pendo Analytics has a free plan for 500 monthly active users, with product analytics and unlimited web and mobile app keys; choose it when that analytics-led package is a closer fit than Stonly’s knowledge-platform approach.

Wakeline is a freemium option whose free plan covers 3 flows, 1,000 monthly active users and 1 teammate; it may suit a team that can work within those flow and seat limits.

Driver.js offers a free plan with unlimited projects and personal and commercial use, making it an option for readers seeking a free alternative.

Flook has a free plan with watermarked widgets and a Pro plan at 39.00 USD per month with all widget types and custom branding; consider it when widget choices and branding are the priority.

Baltu offers a free plan for up to 500 MAUs and a Growth plan at 49.00 USD per month, billed monthly, with no annual contracts and cancellation at any time; it may suit teams looking for those terms.

Dock has a free plan covering workspaces, CMS assets, slides, playbooks, courses, order forms and limited AI usage; choose it when that package is more relevant to your work.

StepBeam offers a free plan for up to 1,000 MAU, 3 team seats, 1 application, basic analytics and community support; its free seat allowance may be more suitable for a small team.

Gainsight PX is a paid option with a free trial; consider it if you prefer a paid product rather than a free-plan model.

Verdict

Stonly is a strong candidate for customer-service teams that need interactive, in-context guidance backed by a managed knowledge base and AI Answers. Its main advantage is bringing those functions together across web and mobile; its main drawback is that tight view caps and the automatic-upgrade policy make costs harder to predict as usage grows. Choose it when branching support journeys and a shared knowledge platform justify that trade-off; look elsewhere if predictable low-cost scaling is the priority.
