Overview

Sinch Engage gives businesses SMS campaigns and two-way customer messaging in one platform, with a shared team inbox and a messaging API. It is best suited to organizations that need coordinated campaigns and conversations across teams, rather than a lightweight tool for occasional texts.

Its strongest case is the combination of automation, team messaging and integration options; its main trade-offs are usage and seat caps across plans, a limited trial, and possible carrier and add-on charges.

Key features

Campaign tools cover scheduled messages, templates, contact management, personalization, audience segmentation and workflow automation. That is a useful foundation for recurring outreach and targeted messaging, while inbound messaging lets teams handle replies instead of treating campaigns as one-way broadcasts.

The shared inbox supports team conversations and conversation assignment, helping teams coordinate replies. Mobile apps for iOS and Android support messaging, assignments and push notifications, but access is restricted: active plan users can use them except accounts on Basic-only plans, and trial-only users; new accounts cannot be created in the app.

Channels include SMS, MMS and RCS, with social channel add-ons for WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Instagram Messenger. The Messages API is a REST API for sending and receiving SMS and MMS, scheduling messages, tracking delivery and handling replies. That makes Engage relevant to teams building messaging into other systems, although the API scope described is specific to SMS and MMS.

Integrations include HubSpot, Salesforce, Shopify, BigCommerce, NetSuite, ActiveCampaign, Microsoft Dynamics, Adobe Campaign, Epic, Zapier and Workato. SAML single sign-on supports Microsoft Entra ID and Okta, including enforcement for matching email domains. Sinch’s Trust Center lists ISO 27001:2022, SOC 2 Type I and Type II, PCI, GDPR and HIPAA badges.

Pricing

Sinch Engage is paid, with pricing from $99/mo and a 14-day trial. The trial requires no credit card, but is limited to exploring the platform and sending test messages to yourself, so it is not a way to run a live campaign before committing.

The Basics plan has custom pricing and includes 3,000 SMS per month, one user and three automation workflows. It is the smallest-capacity option, but its single seat and capped workflows make it a poor fit for teams sharing campaign work. Conversations has custom pricing, 10,000 SMS per month and two users; it raises the message allowance and seat count, but its listed package has no additional workflow allowance. Pro has custom pricing, 40,000 SMS per month, three users and one subaccount. Pro Plus has custom pricing, 100,000 SMS per month, three users and two subaccounts. Advanced has custom pricing, 150,000 SMS per month, three users and three subaccounts. These tiers suit organizations scaling message volume or managing more subaccounts, but the fixed three-user limit in the upper named tiers may constrain larger teams.

Custom enterprise pricing is for more than 150,000 messages per month and includes priority support, a dedicated account manager, and custom migration and integrations. All plans include 24/7 global support; chat, email or phone availability varies by tier. Prices exclude tax, and carrier fees may apply. Some integrations and Meta channels may also incur extra charges, so budget beyond the plan price where those apply.

Platforms

Sinch Engage is available on web, iOS and Android, with API access. The mobile app’s eligibility restrictions matter for trial users and Basic-only customers, who should not count on the app as part of their setup.

Who it's for

Engage fits businesses that need both campaign messaging and a team process for replies, including retail, healthcare, logistics, fitness and service businesses. It is a stronger match for organizations with recurring SMS volume, integrations or operational needs for assignment and automation than for a solo user sending occasional messages. Check plan quotas, seats, app eligibility and potential add-on fees before choosing a tier.

Pros and cons

Pro: Campaigns, automation and a shared inbox bring outbound and inbound messaging into one workflow.
Pro: SMS and MMS API capabilities cover scheduled sending, delivery tracking and replies for teams integrating messaging into software.
Pro: SAML SSO and the listed security and compliance badges address requirements common in larger organizations.
Con: Named plans cap users at one, two or three seats, so growing teams may need enterprise arrangements.
Con: The 14-day trial is restricted to exploration and test messages, limiting its value for evaluating a real campaign.
Con: Carrier fees and some integration or Meta-channel charges can add to the plan cost.
Con: Basic-only and trial-only accounts cannot use the mobile app, and new accounts cannot be opened there.

Alternatives

Klaviyo is worth considering if a free plan matters more than a dedicated business-texting focus: its free tier covers up to 250 active profiles, 500 email sends per month and $5 of mobile messages per month.

EZ Texting may suit a smaller launch budget: its Launch plan is $20.00 USD per month billed annually for up to 500 contacts, 6,000 yearly credits and one user, with a $0.04 overage credit and telecom fee.

Sakari offers a Standard Plan starting at $25 USD per month, with monthly and annual subscription options and unlimited users and contacts; consider it if those allowances matter more than Engage’s described campaign, inbox and API combination.

Textedly has a free plan and a Basic plan at $29.00 USD per month billed monthly for 500 messages, or 600 messages per month with annual billing. It is an option for buyers prioritizing a free entry point or a lower stated message allowance.

Textmagic prices its Essential plan at $0.05 USD per month, billed 100% prepaid, with rates varying by destination country and 160 plain-text characters per SMS part. Consider it if prepaid, destination-dependent pricing fits better than Engage’s monthly plan structure.

Textluma has a free Starter plan with one number, 500 messages per month, campaigns and inbox, one keyword and community support. Its Growth plan is $49.00 USD per month. The free entry tier may suit lower-volume needs.

SimpleTexting lists 500 credits at $29.00 USD per month; adding a local number at $10 per month makes the displayed estimated monthly cost $39.00, plus a one-time carrier registration fee. It is an alternative if that credit-and-number structure better matches your expected use.

Mobile Text Alerts offers a 14-day free trial with 50 messages, a dedicated toll-free number, campaigns and automations.

Verdict

Choose Sinch Engage if your business needs campaigns, team-managed replies and API access in a single messaging platform, and its plan caps fit your team. Look elsewhere if you need an unrestricted trial, app access on a Basic-only account, or clearer total costs before accounting for carrier and add-on charges.
