Spello
Spello is a browser-based spelling and typing practice product for UK primary pupils in Years 1–6.
What Spello is
Spello is a browser-based spelling and typing practice product for UK primary pupils in Years 1–6. Its default curriculum covers the DfE statutory common exception words for those year groups. The product assesses a child's level and adjusts word choice and difficulty during practice. A modified SM-2 spaced-repetition system schedules tricky words for review and removes them once mastered. Children can practise by listening and typing, choosing from multiple answers, using flash cards, arranging letters, or guessing letters. Words and sentences are read aloud, and typing words in context also builds keyboard confidence. Parents and teachers can optionally assign topic, spelling-pattern, or weekly class lists. Families costs £10 for the first year only, then £20/year, and covers up to four children per account with unlimited practice and a daily cap of 10–60 minutes per child. Schools costs £200 per year and adds teacher and class dashboards, teacher-set lists, whole-school analytics, and bulk CSV import. School tools also support pupil-record imports and personalised parent letters and QR-code login slips. Spello works in modern browsers on tablets and laptops, including iPads, Chromebooks, Windows and Mac laptops, and Android tablets via Chrome.
