What Songscription is
Songscription is a web-based AI music-transcription service that turns recordings and video links into sheet music, MIDI, guitar tabs, and an interactive piano roll. You can upload MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC, M4A, MP4, MOV, or WebM files, paste YouTube, Instagram, or TikTok links, record in a browser, or import MIDI and MusicXML. It transcribes piano, guitar, bass, double bass, violin, flute, trumpet, saxophone, drums, and vocals, one instrument at a time. Results can be edited note by note in sheet-music or piano-roll views, including pitches, timing, note removal, and hand assignment. Piano cover mode creates a piano-score arrangement, and chord detection attempts to identify chords through a performance. Exports include PDF, MIDI, MusicXML, and Guitar Pro. MIDI and MusicXML can be used with a range of named music programs. Mobile browser use is available.
Good
- Accepts audio uploads, video links, browser recordings, and imports.
- Edits notes in sheet-music and piano-roll views.
- Exports PDF, MIDI, MusicXML, and Guitar Pro.
- Free plan includes unlimited 30-second transcriptions.
- Works in a mobile browser.
Watch out
- Transcribes only one instrument at a time.
- Busy mixes and background noise may need cleanup.
- Guitar tabs support standard tuning only.
- Paid plans are billed annually before tax.
Who it suits
It suits musicians, educators, composers, and music learners who want to turn recordings into editable notation or tabs. It is less suited to full-band transcription, since it handles one instrument at a time.
Verdict
Songscription combines transcription, note-level editing, and several export formats in a web service. Its single-instrument limit and the stated accuracy caveats matter when choosing recordings to process.
