Graphs
Graphs is a free Linux desktop application for plotting and manipulating data.
What Graphs is
Graphs is a free Linux desktop application for plotting and manipulating data. It imports column-based files such as CSV, DAT, XY, and plain text, along with ODS and XLSX spreadsheets, SQLite databases, Panalytical XRDML, Leybold XRY, and Graphs project files. Datasets can also come from equations, which Graphs renders continuously across the plot canvas. Data operations include normalization, smoothing, differentiation, integration, Fourier transforms, combining, shifting, cutting, and custom coordinate transformations. Curve fitting supports linear, quadratic, exponential, power-law, logarithmic, sigmoid logistic, Gaussian, and custom-equation models. Results may include confidence margins, confidence bands, R², RMSE, and residual plots. Built-in or custom styles control colors, fonts, lines, markers, error bars, axes, ticks, and grids. Figures export to PNG, JPEG, WebP, SVG, PDF, PostScript, or Encapsulated PostScript, with underlying data export too. Graphs is released under GPL v3 or later and is available from Flathub.
Good
- Imports spreadsheets, databases, and scientific formats
- Supports custom equations and curve fitting
- Provides confidence and residual analyses
- Offers extensive plot styling controls
- Exports raster, vector, and data files
Watch out
- Linux desktop only
- No scheduled refresh
- No embedded dashboards
- Free software is installed from Flathub
Who it suits
It suits Linux users preparing data plots for scientific publications or presentations. It is also useful for manipulating datasets from files, databases, or equations.
Verdict
Graphs offers a broad set of data transformations, fitting models, styling controls, and export formats at no cost. Its focus is desktop plotting on Linux rather than refreshed or embedded dashboards.
