What DriftWatch is

DriftWatch monitors DNS records for changes and alerts teams with before-and-after differences. It discovers and monitors A, AAAA, MX, CNAME, TXT, NS, SOA, SRV, and CAA records, using SHA-256 checksums against stored snapshots to detect changes. Users can monitor selected records or an entire domain, with scan intervals set per domain. Alerts can go by email, Slack, webhooks, or Pushover; Slack and Pushover require Pro or higher. Webhook notifications support HMAC-SHA256 signatures, configurable headers, and retry backoff. Team features include owner, admin, member, and viewer roles, shared change history, and alert acknowledgements. A REST API supports domain management, change queries, alert configuration, and scan triggers. The free plan has three domains, 50 DNS records, hourly scans, one email alert channel, and seven days of history. Pro costs $29 a month for 25 domains, five-minute scans, and 90-day history; Enterprise costs $99 a month for 100 domains, one-minute scans, and one-year history. Subdomains count as separate domains, and reaching a plan limit blocks adding domains or channels until items are removed or the plan is upgraded.

Good

  • Monitors nine DNS record types.
  • Alerts include before-and-after changes.
  • Free plan includes three domains.
  • API supports managing domains, alerts, and scans.

Watch out

  • Free plan scans hourly.
  • Slack and Pushover require Pro or higher.
  • Subdomains count as separate domains.
  • Adding domains or channels stops at plan limits.

Who it suits

DriftWatch is aimed at MSPs, hosting providers, DevOps and platform teams, and security teams that need DNS change alerts. Its role-based access and API may also suit teams managing shared monitoring.

Verdict

DriftWatch offers configurable DNS monitoring, team roles, and several alert channels, with plan limits that affect scan frequency and history. Check domain counts carefully, since subdomains use separate domain slots.
