You can connect a Xiaomi phone to a Windows PC with a data-capable USB cable and File Transfer (MTP) mode to browse and copy files. For wireless access, Phone Link or Xiaomi Interconnect Service may offer selected features, but availability depends on your phone model, software versions, and setup.

Transfer files over USB
- Unlock your phone and connect it to the PC with a data-capable USB cable. A charging-only cable will not transfer files.
- On your phone, open the USB notification or prompt and choose File Transfer or MTP. MTP provides access to files; PTP is for photos and videos, while charge-only mode does not transfer files.
- On the PC, open File Explorer, select your phone under This PC, and browse its shared storage. Copy the files you need to a folder on your PC.
If no USB prompt appears, open the USB connection notification while the phone is connected and inspect the available modes. Menu labels vary by model and MIUI or HyperOS version. As a fallback, Xiaomi documents setting the default USB configuration in Developer options; use the instructions for your specific model and software version.
Connect wirelessly with Phone Link
Phone Link pairs a Windows PC with an Android phone for selected features. Microsoft’s general Android setup requires Windows 10 with the October 2022 update or later, or Windows 11; Android 10 or later; and both devices on the same Wi-Fi network. You also need to sign into the same Microsoft account and grant requested permissions. Available features vary by phone, and Phone screen requires a supported device with Link to Windows preinstalled.
- Open Phone Link on your PC and choose the Android setup option.
- On your phone, open or install Link to Windows if needed, then sign into the same Microsoft account.
- Scan the QR code shown on the PC and follow the prompts to pair the devices.
- Approve the permissions you want to use. Check Microsoft’s supported-device information before relying on specific features such as phone screen or wireless file sharing.
Wireless file sharing and drag-and-drop are not available on every Xiaomi phone. Microsoft’s Windows 10 drag-and-drop instructions list Xiaomi devices with Link to Windows preinstalled at version 1.0.52.30 or later, with both devices on the same Wi-Fi. Check the requirements for the exact feature and phone before troubleshooting it.

Connect with Xiaomi Interconnect Service
Xiaomi’s Interconnect Service provides cross-device features between supported Xiaomi phones and Windows PCs, including file transfer and operating the phone on the computer. Requirements include installing and opening the service on the PC, connecting both devices to the same local network, and enabling the phone’s device-interconnect setting. Features and requirements vary by model, operating system, and app version, so check Xiaomi’s current compatibility information for your device.
Troubleshooting connection problems
- The phone charges but does not appear in File Explorer: Select File Transfer/MTP on the phone and try a known data-capable cable.
- You only need to import photos: Select PTP if available, or use Windows photo import. The phone may need to be set to media or photo transfer.
- Phone Link will not pair: Confirm the Windows and Android versions meet the requirements, connect both devices to the same Wi-Fi, use the same Microsoft account, and approve the requested permissions.
- A wireless Phone Link option is missing: Check whether your phone model, preinstalled Link to Windows app and version, Windows version, and network meet that feature’s requirements.
- Xiaomi Interconnect Service is unavailable: Check your phone’s software version, PC app version, device-interconnect setting, and same-local-network connection. Feature support varies by model.

Why does my Xiaomi phone only charge when connected to my PC?
