Fix a generic AI music prompt by replacing vague mood words with a clear musical scene, a defined style, a few audible instruments, a vocal choice, and a simple arrangement. On your Xiaomi, Redmi, or POCO phone, draft that brief in Notes, then try it in Suno or Udio. Change one detail at a time so you can tell which wording makes the result more specific.
Why Generic Prompts Produce Generic Songs
Words such as “beautiful,” “epic,” and “chill” describe a reaction, not a sound. They leave the system to choose the musical style, instruments, tempo feel, vocal delivery, and song structure. A useful prompt gives it concrete choices without piling on contradictory instructions.

For example, “make a relaxing song” could mean a slow piano ballad, ambient synthesizers, or gentle acoustic guitar. “A quiet instrumental for reading, with warm electric piano, soft brushed drums, a slow pulse, and no vocals” gives a much narrower target.
Build A Prompt With Five Specific Choices
- Name the use: Say where the track belongs, such as background music for studying, a rainy-night drive, or a short birthday video. The occasion gives the music a job.
- Choose a style: Pick a broad genre or a more specific style you can describe accurately. Add a time or place only if it helps explain the sound; avoid stacking unrelated genres.
- Describe the sound: Name two or three instruments and what they do. “Muted guitar picking over soft bass” is more actionable than “dreamy instruments.”
- Set the energy and pace: Use audible terms such as sparse, steady, gentle, driving, or building. If you know the desired tempo, include it; otherwise, a plain-language pace is enough.
- Define vocals and shape: State “instrumental” or describe the vocal character and lyric subject. For a song with sections, specify a simple progression such as a restrained opening, fuller chorus, and quiet ending.
Turn A Vague Prompt Into A Useful Brief
Start with “make a happy song,” then decide what happy means for the actual occasion. For a sunny walk, you might want buoyant acoustic pop; for a celebration clip, you might want a punchier chorus. Here is a complete example for a low-key study session:

Prompt: “Instrumental background music for a focused study session on a rainy afternoon. Gentle lo-fi hip-hop feel, warm electric piano chords, soft dusty drum loop, and a rounded bass line. Steady, unhurried groove; keep the melody simple and the arrangement unobtrusive, with no vocals.”
Each detail earns its place: the use sets the role, the style narrows the sound, the instruments make it imaginable, and the arrangement keeps the track from competing with reading. If the result still feels broad, replace one general phrase with a more audible description instead of adding a long list of adjectives.

Refine The Result One Change At A Time
- Keep the best brief: Save the original prompt in Notes so you can return to it and compare revisions on your phone.
- Identify the mismatch: Decide what is actually wrong: style, instrumentation, vocal feel, energy, or structure. Avoid changing all five at once.
- Make one precise edit: If the drums dominate, ask for softer, sparser percussion. If the track sounds too cheerful, describe the mood through musical qualities such as a slower pace and a more restrained melody.

- Can you picture the listening occasion from the first sentence?
- Does the prompt name a coherent style and a few concrete sounds?
- Does it say whether vocals belong, and what they should communicate?
- Does the energy and arrangement fit the use, such as unobtrusive study music or a bold celebration clip?
- Have you removed vague filler and conflicting directions?
