Overview

VCam brings background changes, camera enhancements, and meeting-oriented extras together in one app. Its virtual camera can serve multiple platforms at the same time, including OBS Studio and Discord, which is useful when a call and a streaming or recording setup need the same feed. VCam says processing happens on the user's device and camera-feed data is not sent to its servers—a clear advantage for users who want to keep that data off the service's servers.

The app is made by SplitmediaLabs Limited, which says it was established in 2009 and introduced VCam in 2018. The maker also says its custom model was built with Intel and reports 98.5% accuracy for its latest NPU-optimized models; that claim should be read as the company's own report, not a guarantee for every device or setting.

Key features

VCam can remove, blur, or replace webcam backgrounds. Users can select from more than 1,000 virtual backgrounds, upload their own, or use an image, video, or Unsplash stock photo. Supported inputs are JPEG, PNG, GIF, MP4, and WEBM. That flexibility suits both callers who just want less distraction and teams that want a branded backdrop, though the available storage depends on the plan.

AI auto-framing tracks the user's face, and studio lighting effects brighten the video feed. Pause Loop repeats the camera feed while someone takes a break, then lets them rejoin without disturbing the meeting. Nametags display a name and job title in one of four designs; customization is coming soon. Together, these features make VCam more useful for managed meeting presentation than a background-only utility, although the fixed nametag designs may not suit teams seeking a tailored look.

VCam says it works with Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Discord, OBS Studio, and specialized software such as NCR's TellerNow. Its online Dashboard lets teams share backgrounds, logos, and settings, invite Workspace members, and manage access. The breadth of integrations and simultaneous virtual-camera use are useful for people moving between meeting and creator tools, while the team controls matter most once several users need a consistent setup.

Pricing

Starter is free and allows up to 3 Workspace members, with Basic Support, Windows and macOS compatibility, up to 500MB of storage, and a watermark. It is the sensible way to try VCam or test a small shared setup, but the watermark and low storage ceiling are real drawbacks for polished or ongoing use.

Personal costs $48.00 USD per year, billed yearly, and is for 1 user. It includes Chat & Email Support, Windows and macOS, up to 2GB of storage, and no watermark. The page says yearly billing saves 33% versus monthly billing. This is the straightforward choice for an individual who wants a clean feed and more room than Starter provides, but it does not include team management.

Personal Lifetime costs $59.00 USD per once, billed pay once, yours forever, and is also for 1 user. It includes the same 2GB storage, no watermark, and Chat & Email Support as Personal. The page also shows $90. For an individual planning to use VCam long term, the one-time option avoids an annual renewal; it does not add capacity or team features over Personal.

Business costs $72.00 USD per year, billed yearly and charged per user. It includes unlimited Workspace members, Priority Support, Windows and macOS, up to 5GB of storage, no watermark, Workspace member management, enforced team logos and backgrounds, machine licensing, and centralized billing. The page says yearly billing saves 25% versus monthly billing. This is the appropriate tier for organizations that need consistent branding and central control, but per-user pricing means costs rise with the team.

Enterprise has custom pricing for teams above 500 seats. It includes a Dedicated Success Manager, up to 10GB of storage, SSO (SAML), on-site deployment, and tailored contracts and invoicing. Those deployment and identity options distinguish it from Business for very large teams, but smaller groups should compare Business before considering this tier.

Platforms

VCam is available on macOS, Windows, and the web. It recommends Windows 10 or higher and macOS Ventura 13.1 or higher, so users on older operating systems should check compatibility before choosing a plan. The listed Personal and Business plans specify Windows and macOS.

Who it's for

VCam is best for individuals who want more control over their meeting appearance than a background toggle alone provides, and for teams that need shared visual settings across supported apps. The local-processing approach is particularly relevant to users who prefer camera-feed data not to be sent to VCam's servers. It is less compelling for someone seeking only a basic background remover, or for an individual who does not need its framing, lighting, or meeting extras.

Pros and cons

Pros: Background removal, blur, replacement, and multiple media formats give users several ways to shape a camera scene.
Pros: A virtual camera that can run across multiple platforms at once reduces the need to maintain separate feeds for meetings and creator tools.
Pros: On-device processing, according to VCam, keeps camera-feed data from being sent to its servers.
Pros: Business adds enforced branding, member management, machine licensing, and centralized billing for teams.
Cons: Starter adds a watermark and limits storage to 500MB, making it a poor fit for a polished regular setup.
Cons: Personal is limited to one user and does not include the workspace controls offered by Business.
Cons: Nametags have four designs, with customization coming soon, rather than a currently customizable set.

Alternatives

For a different kind of background-removal tool, consider Cutout.Pro, a freemium service available across Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, web, Windows, and API. Its listed subscription starts at $5.00 USD per month for 80 credits; choose it when that credit-based subscription model and broader platform range fit better than VCam's meeting-focused virtual camera.

BackgroundRemover is a free, open-source project that can be installed locally with pip or from source code. It is a relevant alternative for users who prefer a locally installed open-source option over VCam's bundled meeting tools.

Bria Video Background Removal offers a free plan with 100 generations, cloud-only deployment, a limit of 10 requests per minute, queue-based latency, and Discord community support. Its free trial and API availability may suit users who want a cloud-based background-removal workflow rather than VCam's on-device meeting companion.

Pixelcut is available on Android, iOS, web, and API, with a free plan that includes limited background removal and upscale plus free exports without a watermark. Consider it when those image-oriented tools and mobile platforms matter more than a virtual camera for meetings.

EZ-CorridorKey is a free desktop app for Linux, macOS, and Windows.

Knockout API is a freemium API and web service with a free allowance of 30 images per month and a metered pay-as-you-go option.

Transparent Background is a free, open-source Python package with GUI and webcam support.

Media.io AI Object Remover is a web-based paid product with a 3-day free trial, 50GB of cloud storage, and 1080p export.

Verdict

Choose VCam if you want one virtual camera for meeting and creator apps, with background controls, framing, lighting, and team branding in the same package. Its on-device processing claim is an additional reason to consider it. Look elsewhere if you need only a simple remover, or if Starter's watermark and storage cap are too restrictive and the paid plans' per-user or single-user terms do not fit.
