Overview

OpenComp brings compensation data and pay decisions into one platform. Regular API syncs can bring first-party pay data from HRIS, equity management and payroll systems into the process. Teams can compare pay plans with OpenComp’s global compensation data or a third-party source, while AI-powered normalization, leveling and matching aims to make employee comparisons more like-for-like.

The product reaches beyond analysis: salary review and approval workflows, budget controls, compensation bands and an audit trail support the work of making and tracking pay decisions. That breadth can help HR teams move away from spreadsheet-based processes. It is less compelling for a buyer who needs only a source of market benchmarks.

Key features

Benchmarking and planning

OpenComp provides salary, bonus and equity market insights for roles across an organization. Its matching process is intended to align employee data for comparisons, and support for over 30 HRIS products gives teams a range of possible connections to their existing systems. Headcount models can estimate future cash burn and dilution using hiring needs, pay strategy and industry benchmarks, making the planning tools relevant to organizations weighing workforce growth against financial impact.

Pay workflows and employee communication

Salary reviews, approvals, budget controls and an audit trail cover practical steps in compensation cycles. Compensation bands and pay strategy tools support setting ranges, while Total Rewards Statements can present salary, bonuses, equity and merit increases in a visual employee report. Merit increases and Intelligent Offers are included in the Comp Cycles bundle, broadening its scope from annual review administration to offer decisions.

Security

OpenComp says it uses access controls, encryption, security certifications and system audits to protect compensation data. Those safeguards matter for a platform handling sensitive pay information, though no particular certification is identified here.

Pricing

OpenComp is paid software, with pricing on request and a 14-day free trial. The pricing page presents three bundles, but only Comp Cycles has a stated price: 0.00 USD per free. It includes Global Comp Data, Benchmarking, Pay Equity, Pay Strategy and ranges, Headcount Planning, Total Rewards statements, Merit increases and an Intelligent Offers feature, with advisory services available as an add-on. The broad bundle makes it the most complete stated option for teams that need workflows as well as benchmarks, but its free price should be weighed against the need to confirm plan terms and fit.

Comp Strategy has custom pricing and includes Global Comp Data, Benchmarking, Pay Equity, Pay Strategy and ranges, Headcount Planning, Total Rewards statements, Merit increases and an advisory services add-on. It keeps planning and employee-facing reward statements in scope, but does not include the listed Intelligent Offers feature. Comp Benchmarking also has custom pricing and includes Global Comp Data, Benchmarking and Pay Equity; it is the narrower fit for teams focused on market comparisons and pay equity rather than planning or compensation cycles. The trial lasts 14 days.

Platforms

OpenComp runs on the web. Its HRIS integrations may help connect existing people systems, but the product’s platform availability is web-only.

Who it's for

OpenComp is best suited to HR and compensation teams that want market data, pay planning and review workflows in a connected tool. Organizations modeling headcount costs or communicating total rewards to employees have reasons to consider its wider bundle. It is a weaker match for teams that only need a benchmark dataset, or buyers who require a published price before starting a conversation.

Pros and cons

Broad compensation coverage: Benchmarking, pay equity, planning, review workflows and rewards statements can support multiple stages of pay management in one platform.
Several benchmark inputs: Teams can compare plans against OpenComp data or a third-party source, with matching designed to normalize employee records.
Planning beyond pay ranges: Headcount models can estimate cash burn and dilution, useful when compensation decisions are tied to hiring plans.
Pricing requires a request: Comp Strategy and Comp Benchmarking have custom pricing, so buyers cannot compare their cost from a public price alone.
Web-only availability: Buyers seeking native mobile platforms will need to look elsewhere.

Verdict

Choose OpenComp if your HR team wants to connect market benchmarking with pay planning, compensation cycles and employee rewards communication. Its main advantage is the breadth of that workflow; its main drawback is that most bundles require a pricing request, so it is not the clearest choice for buyers who need a firm cost before evaluating a product.
