Overview

NIQ is an enterprise market-intelligence and research platform that brings together market measurement, consumer insights, analytics, and AI. It is best suited to organizations making decisions across categories, brands, pricing, or retail performance. Its breadth is a strength, but access depends on the market, dataset, subscription, and configuration.

Key features

NIQ combines point-of-sale and e-commerce activity with consumer panels, product attributes, and economic signals, operating in more than 90 countries. That mix gives organizations a wider view of market conditions than a single data stream can provide. It is relevant to manufacturers, retailers, media companies, and financial institutions, though the breadth matters only if the needed markets and datasets are available to the buyer.

Optiq is live in Discover for eligible clients, where conversational answers are grounded in NIQ data. Optiq Chat supports exploration of category and brand performance, competitors, pricing, promotions, and retailer performance. Ask Arthur is another conversational analytical assistant for exploring NIQ data. These tools can lower the friction of working with complex data, but are not a substitute for access to the underlying data or the appropriate subscription.

NIQ AI Powered Qualitative Research offers AI interviews, ethnographic research, and research communities. Participants can respond via chat, text, video, or voice, with language models supporting interviews and analysis; NIQ says studies can be completed in days rather than weeks. That pace and range of formats may suit teams seeking qualitative feedback quickly, while the AI-supported approach may not fit buyers who require a different research process.

For integration, NIQ supports applications, APIs, cloud delivery, and agent-to-agent architectures. Optiq Bridge is designed to bring NIQ intelligence into existing AI tools, including enterprise LLM environments, while Optiq Chat + Mobile is available on web, iOS, and Android. NIQ describes restricted access, controlled sharing, zero-trust security, encryption for its AI Chatbot data in transit and at rest, and human review of AI outputs. It also says client data is not used to train or fine-tune that chatbot model. These safeguards are material for organizational buyers, but do not remove the need to assess product-specific governance and availability.

Pricing

NIQ is paid, with custom pricing. There is no free plan, so organizations should expect to evaluate the cost against their required datasets, markets, and product configuration before committing. Buyers should also account for Optiq availability varying by market, dataset, subscription, and configuration. Ask Arthur Chat was initially designed for US SMB clients and was available in the United States at the time of NIQ’s April 2026 announcement.

Platforms

NIQ supports Android, iOS, web, Windows, and API access. The mobile-specific Optiq Chat + Mobile experience is described for web, iOS, and Android. Supported upload formats include MIF, SHP, RX5, KML, KMZ, CSV, XLS, and MDB; drive-time analysis, territory planning, and demographic data are also supported.

Who it's for

NIQ is aimed at organizational teams including executives, marketers, innovation groups, category managers, and supply chain leaders. Its research methods span mixed methods, surveys, interviews, qualitative and quantitative analysis. It is a stronger fit for teams needing broad market intelligence and research capabilities than for individuals seeking a low-cost standalone app.

Pros and cons

Pro: Multiple data streams across more than 90 countries can support market analysis across categories and channels.
Pro: AI-assisted qualitative research supports chat, text, video, and voice responses, with NIQ citing completion in days rather than weeks.
Pro: API, cloud, and agent-to-agent connectivity offer several paths to connect NIQ intelligence with client environments.
Con: Custom pricing and no free plan make it difficult for smaller buyers to assess affordability without engaging NIQ.
Con: Product and Optiq availability can depend on market, dataset, subscription, and configuration, limiting predictability for multi-market plans.

Alternatives

For a focused pricing-analytics search, compare the Pricing Analytics Software category; for assortment decisions, see Retail Assortment Planning Software. Buyers prioritizing location analysis can browse Location Intelligence Software, while a narrower retail-pricing need may point to Retail Pricing Software. Teams evaluating AI-led research can also review AI Market Research Software.

Sell Smart Price Optimization is a more defined, web-based option for product-level price optimization: it has a free plan capped at 50 products and an Early Bird plan at 49.00 USD per month, billed monthly, for up to 1,000 products. Pick it when those product limits and published prices suit the need better than NIQ’s custom-priced breadth.

7Learnings is a paid web and API alternative with pricing by demo request and no published subscription price. Vendavo CPQ is also paid and available on web and API, with a demo request and no public price or plan limits stated. First Insight InsightSUITE Pricing Analysis is a paid web option with pricing by contacting First Insight; Retalon Price Management and Optimization is a paid web option with a demo by request. Competera offers paid web and API access, including SLA-controlled competitive price monitoring, AI product matching, and pay-per-use billing for Competitive Data. DemandTec offers annual enterprise SaaS with a custom quote, modules scaled to banners, SKUs, and supplier network, plus implementation and customer success. Pricemoov is a paid web and API pricing platform with pricing by contact.

Verdict

Choose NIQ if your organization needs broad market measurement, consumer research, and analytics connected across data sources, with AI tools and integration options. Its main advantage is scope; its main reason to look elsewhere is the uncertainty of custom pricing and product availability across markets and configurations.
