Overview

MoneyMinder is a web-based financial management app with iOS and Android apps, built around budgeting, bookkeeping and fund accounting. It is best suited to organizations that need to track restricted funds and grants alongside their budgets. Its free edition provides a useful budgeting starting point; bookkeeping, reconciliation and mobile apps require the paid plan.

Key features

Budgeting and financial records

The free edition includes budgeting tools, a custom chart of accounts, budget forecasting and Excel export. That gives smaller organizations ways to plan and work with their budget data without paying, but it does not include the bookkeeping and bank registers offered by the paid plan. Paid users also get budgeting and reconciliation, plus financial reports—a stronger fit when budgeting needs to connect to ongoing financial records.

Fund and grant tracking

MoneyMinder supports fund accounting and restricted-fund tracking, and its paid plan includes fund tracking. Grant tracking is also supported. These capabilities make it relevant to organizations that must distinguish money by purpose; readers seeking fund tracking in the product itself should expect to pay for the MoneyMinder plan.

Controls and auditability

An audit trail is supported, and the paid plan adds role-based user permissions. Together, those features suit organizations that need a record of activity and different access rights for users. The free edition does not include the paid plan’s listed role-based permissions.

Pricing

MoneyMinder uses a freemium model and offers a 30-day trial. MoneyMinder Free Edition costs 0.00 USD per free and includes budgeting tools, a custom chart of accounts, budget forecasting and Excel export. It is the practical entry point for organizations focused on budget planning, but it gives up bookkeeping, reconciliation, financial reports and fund tracking.

The MoneyMinder plan has custom pricing. It adds bookkeeping and bank registers, budgeting and reconciliation, financial reports, fund tracking, role-based user permissions, and iOS and Android apps. Organizations that need those functions can weigh the broader operational coverage against a price that depends on their needs; those seeking only core budgeting can stay with the free edition.

Platforms

MoneyMinder is available on the web, iOS and Android. The mobile apps are included with the paid plan, so the free edition is not the choice for organizations that need mobile access through the product.

Who it's for

MoneyMinder is a strong fit for organizations that budget by fund, track restricted funds or grants, and need bookkeeping and reconciliation in the same system. The free edition suits budget-focused users who can work without its paid bookkeeping and fund-tracking features. Organizations that need more than budgeting but want predictable published pricing may prefer to compare alternatives.

Pros and cons

Pro: The free edition combines forecasting, a custom chart of accounts and Excel export, giving budget-focused organizations several practical tools at no cost.
Pro: Fund accounting, restricted-fund tracking and grant tracking address financial workflows that generic budgeting alone would not cover.
Pro: An audit trail is supported, while paid users also get role-based permissions.
Con: Bookkeeping, reconciliation, reports and fund tracking are reserved for the custom-priced paid plan.
Con: The iOS and Android apps are paid-plan features, limiting the free edition for mobile-first users.

Verdict

Choose MoneyMinder if your organization needs budgeting tied to fund and restricted-fund tracking, with paid bookkeeping, reconciliation and reporting available as needs grow. Its free edition is a useful budget-planning entry point, but organizations needing full bookkeeping or mobile apps must move to custom-priced paid service; those wanting only budget tools can avoid that commitment.
