Overview

Momence brings bookings, payments, marketing, customer communication, and business operations together for experience-based businesses. That combination is useful for studios running more than a simple class calendar: the same platform can support classes, appointments, workshops, and events, alongside customer payments and follow-up. The trade-off is that prospective customers need to contact sales for a quote before they can weigh the cost against the operational breadth.

The free customer app gives clients a way to book, but it is not a marketplace for discovering studios. Customers cannot search for other businesses in the app, and Momence says a business appears to a customer when it is the only business they have visited there. It is therefore more useful for serving an established client base than for attracting new clients through in-app browsing.

Key features

Scheduling and bookings

Operators can schedule recurring classes, appointments, workshops, events, and other experiences, with controls for availability, booking rules, capacity, pricing, and staff assignments. Instructor scheduling, waitlists, and capacity management make the system relevant to studios balancing group sessions with appointments. The breadth is less important for a business that needs only a basic recurring class timetable.

Messaging and automation

The Inbox brings two-way SMS, in-app messages, email, Instagram DMs, and Facebook DMs together. Sequences can trigger customer journeys around activity such as a new purchase, missed class, or period of inactivity, which gives studios a way to structure follow-up rather than handle every reminder manually. The AI Inbox Agent can answer routine questions and assist with eligible booking and membership requests, escalating cases that need a person; that is useful for routine demand, not a replacement for staff judgment.

Payments and integrations

Momence supports online and in-person payments, saved payment methods, and payment plans. The maker also documents integrations with Zoom, Stripe, Wellhub, QuickBooks, and Kisi. The Zoom integration creates up to 100 meetings at a time and queues additional meetings for the following day, and it requires a paid Zoom plan. Studios scheduling larger batches should account for that queue when planning online sessions.

Security and health information

Momence says it encrypts data in transit with TLS and encrypts data at rest using methods such as AES-256 where technically feasible. That does not make the full platform HIPAA compliant: SOAP notes and customer diagnoses are subject to HIPAA requirements, while intake forms are not HIPAA compliant and should not be used to store medical PHI. Businesses handling protected health information should choose a system with suitable compliant workflows instead.

Pricing

Momence uses custom pricing tailored to each business, with a quote available by contacting sales. There are no published plan tiers or seat and usage quotas to compare, so a studio cannot assess its likely subscription cost from the plan structure alone. Businesses can activate a 14-day free trial by switching to a Studio Account in Settings, giving them a short period to evaluate the product before committing. The free Momence app is for customers booking with a business, not a free business plan.

Platforms

Momence is available on web, Android, and iOS. The free customer app supports bookings, while businesses can use the broader platform to manage their studio operations.

Who it's for

Momence is aimed at fitness and wellness businesses, including yoga, Pilates, dance, indoor cycling, boutique studios, and gyms. It is strongest for operators who need varied scheduling, payments, and coordinated customer communication in one platform. Businesses seeking a public discovery channel through the customer app, or HIPAA-compliant intake and medical-record workflows, should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pros: One platform covers classes and appointments, payments, messaging, and marketing automation, which can reduce the need to coordinate separate tools.
Pros: Scheduling controls include staff assignments, capacity, and waitlists, useful for studios with a varied timetable.
Pros: The Inbox spans SMS, in-app messages, email, and social DMs, while the AI agent can route cases it cannot resolve to a person.
Cons: Custom pricing requires a sales conversation before businesses can compare costs with alternatives.
Cons: The customer app does not let clients search for other businesses, limiting its value for discovery.
Cons: The platform is not fully HIPAA compliant, and intake forms must not be used to store medical PHI.

Alternatives

WellnessLiving is worth considering if a business wants a published annual price and a free plan: its Starter plan is 62.00 USD per month billed annually and covers one staff member, classes and appointments booking, client and staff apps, and POS. Agon may suit buyers looking for a free download with all modules included and no subscription, account, or activation requirement; it supports Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows.

easybook.studio offers a free web plan for up to 25 customers and one team member, with unlimited bookings but cash payments only, making it a possible fit for a small operation willing to accept those constraints. Phorma is another paid studio option with founding-studio pricing for the first studios in each city; its pricing is arranged through a demo.

Gymdesk is an alternative for a gym that wants a defined member-based price: its plan for up to 50 members is 75.00 USD per month, with a free trial. Zen Planner offers studio pricing of 99.00 USD per month for 0–45 active members, so it may suit a studio that prefers a published member-banded price. Hone has an Instructor plan at 14.00 USD per month for solo instructors and a Studio Starter plan at 49.00 USD per month, a more focused option for a solo teacher or smaller studio. Jogo sells messaging and AI assistant add-ons, so it may appeal to buyers seeking those capabilities as add-ons rather than Momence's broader studio platform.

Verdict

Momence is a strong candidate for fitness and wellness studios that want scheduling, payments, messaging, and activity-based marketing in one system, especially when their calendars combine classes and appointments. The 14-day trial offers a way to evaluate that breadth, but custom pricing makes the cost harder to compare upfront. Look elsewhere if in-app customer discovery or HIPAA-compliant handling of medical information is central to the business.
