Overview

Membermojo is a browser-based service for clubs, associations and charities that need to manage applications, member records and renewals. It is particularly well suited to smaller organisations that want members to maintain their own details while administrators handle approvals and records. Its free tier and annual, member-count-based plans make it possible to start small, though payment and integration requirements can push the cost up.

Key features

Every plan includes a membership database, renewal reminders, mailing lists, a directory, an attendance register and membership card images, alongside PayPal and offline payments. That gives volunteer-run organisations a useful core set of administrative tools without separate services for basic records and renewals. Organisations can set up individual or family membership levels, align renewal dates to a financial year or application date, and require a joining fee or approval before payment.

Custom fields can hold information such as emergency contacts, medical details and administrator-only notes, while members can maintain their own records. Administrators can sort and filter records in a spreadsheet-like view, set view or edit permissions, and share the work across multiple administrators. Records can be imported from Access, Excel or similar applications, and the full database can be downloaded as a spreadsheet.

PayPal and Stripe are supported for online payments, with funds going to the organisation's own payment account; processor fees are separate. Stripe is limited to plans costing £95/year or more, so organisations on the £50/year tier have PayPal and offline payments instead. Mailchimp integration also requires a plan of £95/year or higher. An optional printed-card service is offered through ClubCards121.

The company says member data is held in a UK data centre, mirrored to backup servers in real time and backed up hourly in encrypted form to a second UK data centre. It also says card and account details do not pass through its systems, TLS is provided through Cloudflare, and passwords are stored using one-way encryption. These are relevant safeguards for organisations handling member information.

Pricing

Membermojo offers a 60-day fully functional trial without payment details required until conversion, and no commitment during the trial. The free plan allows up to 50 members and renews annually. Paid plans are billed annually, with prices inclusive of VAT: £50/year for up to 100 members, £95/year for up to 500, £175/year for up to 1,000, £300/year for up to 2,000, £475/year for up to 5,000, and £635/year for up to 10,000. The 50-member plan's price is custom pricing.

The free plan is a sensible fit for a small group that can stay within 50 members; it includes the core database and payment options, but not the larger headroom of paid tiers. At £50/year, the 100-member plan is a modest step up, but it excludes Stripe, Mailchimp, the member store and phone wallet cards, which require the £95/year plan or higher. The £95/year tier is the practical choice for organisations that need those options and can fit within 500 members. Larger tiers increase capacity at higher annual cost, making the right choice dependent on the organisation's membership total.

Plan counts include paid and pending members and retained lapsed-member records, but not records moved to the download-only archive. Exceeding a limit prompts an upgrade, so a group near its cap should account for pending applications and retained records, not just current paid members. Payment processor fees are additional to the subscription.

Platforms

Membermojo is a web service. Members can join, renew or update details using a PC, tablet or phone, which suits organisations whose members use a mix of devices without needing a dedicated mobile app.

Who it's for

Membermojo is a good fit for clubs, associations and charities seeking a shared membership register, self-service updates and routine renewal administration. Multiple administrator permissions, imports and spreadsheet exports also make it more suitable than a bare sign-up form for groups with an existing register or several people responsible for membership. Organisations that require Stripe or Mailchimp should budget for at least the £95/year tier; those needing features beyond the stated member limits should compare their requirements before committing.

Pros and cons

Pros: Core plans combine member records, reminders, self-service, directory and attendance tools, reducing the need to assemble separate basics.
Pros: Spreadsheet imports and exports support moving an existing register in and keeping a downloadable copy.
Pros: The free tier covers up to 50 members, and the 60-day trial gives organisations time to evaluate the service before entering payment details.
Cons: Stripe and Mailchimp require £95/year or more, limiting the £50/year tier for groups that depend on either.
Cons: Member caps count pending and retained lapsed records, so a growing organisation can hit its limit sooner than its paid-member count suggests.
Cons: The web-only platform has no listed native mobile app, which may matter to organisations seeking app-based member access.

Alternatives

For a broader shortlist, compare Membership Management Software and Membership Billing Software. ChamberedIn is an alternative with Android, iOS and web access, including a paid Premier plan at $499.00 USD per month for 250 members or a no-upfront-cost revenue-share plan. Mybers is worth considering for mobile and API access or a free forever plan with unlimited members and 500 emails per month. Givebear may suit groups focused on donor contacts, with a free tier for 50 contacts and 100 emails a month. memberplanet offers Android, iOS, web and API access, with a Basic tier for unlimited members and admins. MembershipWorks is another web-based freemium option, with a free plan for 50 accounts and a $35.00 USD per month plan for up to 300. Paid Memberships Pro is a self-hosted alternative whose open-source core and add-ons can run on as many sites as desired. Associatify offers a web-based free plan for one admin with a member registry and simple email automation. Asovex offers a free web plan for up to 10 members and a paid Basic plan for up to 100.

Verdict

Choose Membermojo if your club, association or charity wants a web-based membership system with member self-service, practical administration tools and annual pricing that starts with a free tier. Its strongest case is the breadth of core record, renewal and payment functions across plans. Look elsewhere if you need Stripe or Mailchimp without stepping up to at least £95/year, or if a native mobile app is essential.
