Overview

Transcription, subtitling and translation are available in more than 150 languages. Speaker identification and timestamps make conversations easier to follow, while DOCX, TXT, SRT and MP4 exports cover document, subtitle and video needs. For work that needs a human touch, optional proofreading, subtitling, translation and transcription services are priced separately, from $2.00 per minute, with stated accuracy of 99%+ and delivery from four hours.

Key features

Meeting connections cover Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Google Calendar and Outlook Calendar. That makes Happy Scribe a practical option for teams gathering conversations across common meeting and calendar services. Collaborative editing, comments, highlights and shared workspaces help colleagues improve transcripts together; additional seats are supported, though the number included depends on the plan.

AI tools can produce summaries and action items, apply custom templates, and make transcripts searchable. AI Chat offers another way to work with transcript files, but its limited free trial means regular use is likely to require a paid plan. Mobile apps for iPhone and Android support offline recording. The Mac desktop app is described as coming soon for recording calls without a bot, so it should not be treated as a current desktop option.

Business and Enterprise add team administration such as roles, permissions, centralized billing, SSO/SAML and user management. Security provisions include SOC 2 Type II certification, GDPR compliance, EU data residency and TLS encryption. Recordings are not used to train AI models unless a user opts in. Support is available from 05:00 to 23:00 CET.

Pricing

The free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and allows unlimited meeting recordings, but each recording is capped at 45 minutes, history is limited, and the AI trial lasts 10 minutes. It also includes 3 AI Chat files per month. That is useful for occasional short meetings, not sustained transcription or AI-assisted review.

Basic costs 8.50 USD per month with annual billing, or $17/month billed monthly. It includes 120 minutes/month, a 90-minute per-recording cap, 1 user seat and 1,440 AI minutes per year. The lower price suits an individual with modest needs, but the recording cap and minute allowance constrain heavier use.

Pro costs 19.00 USD per month with annual billing, or $29/month billed monthly. Its 600 minutes/month, unlimited recording duration, 3 user seats and 7,200 AI minutes per year make it a more practical step up for longer recordings and small teams.

Business costs 59.00 USD per month with annual billing, or $89/month billed monthly. It includes 6,000 minutes/month, 5 user seats and 72,000 AI minutes per year, plus unlimited style guides and glossaries. Those shared controls make it the clearest fit for teams handling larger volumes. Enterprise has custom pricing and adds premium support, dedicated account management, SSO/SAML and advanced workspace features.

Annual-plan credits reset each billing cycle; purchased top-up credits remain until used. Pay-as-you-go top-ups avoid a subscription commitment, which can suit irregular demand. Human Services cost 2.00 USD per once, priced from $2.00/min, for human proofreading, subtitling, translation and professional transcription.

Platforms

Happy Scribe supports Android, iOS, macOS and API access. Its iPhone and Android apps offer offline recording; the Mac app for bot-free call recording is described as coming soon.

Who it's for

Choose Happy Scribe if multilingual transcription or subtitles, meeting integrations and collaborative transcript review matter more than an unrestricted free tier. It is less suitable for people who need generous free AI use, consistently high monthly volume on a low-cost plan, or a current Mac desktop recording app.

Pros and cons

Pro: Support for more than 150 languages across transcription, subtitling and translation suits multilingual workflows.
Pro: Meeting integrations, shared editing and plan-based seats give teams ways to capture and refine transcripts together.
Pro: Top-ups remain usable until spent, providing an option for occasional work without a subscription.
Con: The free plan limits recordings to 45 minutes and AI Chat to a 10-minute trial, so it is a narrow test of ongoing use.
Con: Basic caps recordings at 90 minutes and includes just one seat; longer recordings or collaboration require a higher plan.
Con: The bot-free Mac call-recording app is not yet available.

Alternatives

For an open-source option, consider mercuryScribe, which is free under the MIT license for personal, academic or commercial use. OpenWhispr is another free-plan alternative, with 2,000 words per week of transcription and five hours of meeting recordings per month. If an API-oriented service with free credits is a better fit, AssemblyAI offers $50 in audio credits and pay-as-you-go Universal-2 at 0.15 USD per hour. Speechmatics offers a free tier with $100 in credits, two concurrent real-time sessions and 10 pre-recorded files per second.

Simon Says is another freemium alternative. Rev offers a free plan with English-only transcription and 45 AI transcription and caption minutes per month. AudioPod AI, Pepys, and the Podcast Transcription Software, Audio Transcription Software, Speech-to-Text Software and Transcription Software directories are also options to compare.

Verdict

Happy Scribe is a strong choice for multilingual creators and teams that need meeting integrations, shared editing and a path from automated transcripts to human services. Its broad language support and flexible top-ups are compelling; look elsewhere if your priority is a generous free allowance or a currently available Mac desktop app.
