Overview

Mailchimp is a web and mobile email-marketing service for teams that want campaigns, audience tools and automation together. It is strongest for marketers who need more than sending alone, though the free plan’s small contact and email allowances constrain regular use.

Segmentation, A/B testing, landing pages and 300 native integrations give it a broad campaign toolkit. Its plan limits and custom pricing on paid tiers make it less straightforward for buyers who need to forecast costs.

Key features

Campaigns and testing: Built-in email marketing and A/B testing support campaign work and comparisons between variants. The free plan’s 500-email monthly cap makes it better for modest or occasional sends than sustained outreach.
Audience management: Segmentation helps tailor campaigns, while audience and contact caps vary by plan. Free allows one audience and 250 contacts, a tight fit for growing lists.
Automation: Email automation is included. Essentials permits up to four flow steps, which suits simpler sequences better than workflows that require more steps.
Landing pages and publishing: Landing pages, custom domains, popups, sticky bars and a WordPress plugin let teams extend their campaign presence beyond email.
Integrations: 300 native integrations can help connect Mailchimp to other tools already in a marketing setup.

Pricing

Mailchimp is freemium, with a free plan and a 14-day trial. Free costs 0.00 USD per free, billed monthly, and includes 250 contacts, 500 emails per month, 250 per day, one audience and one seat. That is a useful way to start small, but the monthly ceiling can quickly become restrictive.

Essentials has custom pricing and starts at 500 contacts and 5,000 emails per month, with three audiences, three seats and up to four automation flow steps. It is a step up for small teams needing more sending capacity and collaboration, but the flow-step ceiling limits more involved automation.

Standard also has custom pricing: its starting tier has 500 contacts and 6,000 emails per month, five audiences and five seats, and supports up to 100,000 contacts. It suits teams that need more room for audiences and staff than Essentials; its monthly send allowance at the starting tier is only 1,000 higher.

Premium has custom pricing. Its starting tier includes 10,000 contacts and 150,000 emails per month, unlimited audiences and seats, and supports up to 200,000 contacts. That scale and open-ended team access are aimed at larger operations, not buyers seeking a low-cost first step.

Platforms

Mailchimp runs on the web, iOS and Android, giving users access across desktop and mobile devices.

Who it's for

Choose Mailchimp if your work benefits from bringing email campaigns, segmentation, automation and landing pages into one service, especially when its integrations and publishing options match your setup. It is less suitable if your list or sending needs exceed the free allowance and you require a known paid price before committing.

Pros and cons

Pro: Campaigns, segmentation, A/B testing, automation and landing pages cover several connected marketing jobs in one product.
Pro: 300 native integrations, a WordPress plugin and mobile apps give teams multiple ways to connect and access the service.
Con: Free is limited to 250 contacts and 500 monthly emails, so even a modestly active list may outgrow it.
Con: Essentials caps automation flows at four steps, and paid plans have custom pricing, making cost and workflow fit harder to judge in advance.
