Overview

Tango turns browser and desktop processes into step-by-step walkthroughs and browser agents. It suits teams documenting repeatable work in web applications, especially when they want to guide colleagues through the steps. Its central trade-off is clear: flexible capture and sharing, but browser coverage is limited to Chrome and Edge and hosting is cloud-only.

For teams comparing Standard Operating Procedure Software, Tango emphasizes capturing work and turning it into practical guidance. The product dates to 2020 and is made by Tango Technology, Inc.

Key features

Capture and guidance

The Chrome and Edge extension documents browser workflows without code or flow builders. Tango also supports desktop capture on Mac and Windows through its app, but only on Pro and Enterprise plans. Guide Me gives users on-screen, step-by-step prompts and highlights where to click; it is not available for workflows captured with the desktop app.

Capture has meaningful boundaries: the extension does not document Chrome Settings, the Chrome Web Store, or details inside Google Docs and Sheets. Tango says it works across web applications and specifically calls out HubSpot and Salesforce front-end interfaces. Its browser agent interacts with SaaS applications through their front ends using a Chrome or Edge extension, rather than API connections or bespoke integrations.

Sharing and controls

Walkthroughs can be shared by link, embedded in a website or knowledge base, copied as HTML, or exported as PDF, HTML, or Markdown. Video embeds are also a supported output format. Multimedia editing, completion tracking, access controls, and version history support broader documentation workflows, though the free plan is capped at five shared workflows.

Tango says data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and that it undergoes annual SOC 2 Type II audits and penetration tests. Its AI providers are not allowed to retain customer data or use it to train or fine-tune models. Secure Blur and Live Blur help reduce sensitive data collection, and editors can permanently redact information from images. These safeguards are useful for teams documenting business processes, but they do not change the cloud-only hosting model: on-premises deployment is not available.

Pricing

The free plan costs $0.00 per free and includes five shared workflows, browser capture, link and embed sharing, and up to 10 users per workspace. It is a sensible way to try basic browser documentation, but the workflow cap and lack of desktop capture make it a limited long-term fit for larger libraries or desktop procedures.

Pro adds unlimited workflows, browser and desktop capture, 14-day version history, and PDF, Markdown, and HTML export. Pro Team requires three or more users and costs $15 per user per month, billed annually ($15.00 USD per year), or $20 per user per month, billed monthly ($20.00 USD per month). Pro Personal is for one or two users and costs $22 per user per month, billed annually ($22.00 USD per year), or $26 per user per month, billed monthly ($26.00 USD per month). The Team tier has the lower per-user rate, while Personal fits smaller groups; annual billing lowers the monthly rate but commits users to annual billing.

Enterprise has custom pricing, with a platform fee based on the number of users supported. It adds unlimited applications, browser automation, 365-day version history and audit logs, SSO, and SCIM. It is the relevant tier for organizations needing those administration and automation features; its cost depends on scale.

Platforms

Tango is available on the web, Mac, and Windows, with browser extensions for Chrome and Edge. It does not offer Firefox or Safari extensions. The desktop app is restricted to Pro and Enterprise, so teams relying on other browsers or needing Guide Me for desktop-captured workflows should look elsewhere.

Who it's for

Tango is a strong fit for teams that need to turn recurring browser tasks into shareable instructions, guide users through web workflows, or export documentation in multiple formats. The free tier can serve a small team with modest needs. Pro suits users who need unlimited workflows or desktop capture; Enterprise is aimed at organizations that need extended history, audit logs, SSO, SCIM, or browser automation. It is a poor fit for organizations that require on-premises deployment or Firefox and Safari capture.

Pros and cons

Pro: Captures browser workflows without code or flow builders, reducing the effort required to create step-by-step guidance.
Pro: Link, embed, and document exports make it practical to distribute instructions across several channels.
Pro: Blur and redaction tools, encryption, and stated audit and testing practices address common concerns around sensitive workflow content.
Con: The free plan stops at five shared workflows, limiting its usefulness for growing documentation libraries.
Con: Browser capture is limited to Chrome and Edge, with exclusions for Chrome Settings, the Chrome Web Store, and document details in Google Docs and Sheets.
Con: Desktop capture requires a paid plan, and Guide Me cannot guide users through desktop-captured workflows.
Con: Cloud-only hosting rules out organizations that require on-premises deployment.

Verdict

Choose Tango if your team wants to capture browser processes and turn them into guided, shareable instructions without building flows or integrating APIs. Its broad sharing options and on-screen guidance make it especially useful for web-based training and process documentation. Look elsewhere if you need Firefox or Safari capture, on-premises hosting, or Guide Me support for desktop workflows.
