Overview

The plan ladder runs from a free personal workstation option to paid desktop, server, SQL, and broader workload coverage. Image encryption, incremental images, bootable recovery media, and bare-metal restore give it practical recovery options beyond file backup alone. Mobile backup is not supported, so it is not a fit for protecting phones or tablets.

Key features

File and image-based backup: The free plan includes both, giving personal workstation users a way to cover files as well as full system images without an annual charge.
Recovery options: Bare-metal restore and bootable recovery media are useful when restoring a machine after a serious failure, while incremental images can reduce the work of maintaining image backups.
Image protection and destination: Image encryption and cloud image destinations support protected off-machine image copies. Ransomware protection is also included, though the specific mechanisms are not described.
Workload-specific coverage: Windows Server and SQL Server have dedicated plans, while Ultimate includes file, image, SQL Server, and Exchange backup.

Pricing

MSP360 uses a freemium model, with paid plans billed annually. The free plan is the clearest low-commitment choice, but its scope is personal workstation backup and support is forum-based.

Free — 0.00 USD per free: Personal workstation backup, file and image-based backup, and forum-based support. It fits individual use, but is not the option for dedicated server or SQL coverage.
Pro (macOS/Linux) — 19.99 USD per year: Locally managed backup for macOS or Linux. It is the lowest-priced paid plan and a focused choice for users on those systems; it does not cover the Windows desktop plan’s stated workload.
Desktop — 29.99 USD per year: Windows desktop backup. VAT is excluded, so the final cost will be higher where VAT applies.
Server — 109.99 USD per year: Windows Server backup. Its higher price is for server rather than workstation coverage.
SQL — 124.99 USD per year: SQL Server backup, for buyers whose requirement is database protection rather than general desktop backup.
Ultimate — 179.99 USD per year: File, image, SQL Server, and Exchange backup, with an unlimited cloud storage allowance. It is the broadest named plan, but VAT is excluded.

A 15-day trial is offered.

Platforms

MSP360 Backup supports Windows, macOS, and Linux, with computer and server backup. Plan fit varies by operating system: Pro is for macOS/Linux, Desktop is for Windows desktop, and Server is for Windows Server. Mobile backup is not supported.

Who it's for

Choose MSP360 Backup if you need workstation backup with image recovery options, or if you want a specific paid tier for Windows Server, SQL Server, or a broader mix of file, image, SQL Server, and Exchange workloads. The free plan suits personal workstation use. Look elsewhere if mobile-device backup is essential, or if the required plan’s workload does not match your system.

Pros and cons

Pros

Free file and image backup: Personal workstation users can start without an annual fee.
Multiple recovery paths: Bare-metal restore, bootable recovery media, and incremental images address more than simple file retrieval.
Workload-specific paid tiers: Dedicated plans distinguish desktop, Windows Server, and SQL Server backup needs.
Broad Ultimate scope: One plan combines file, image, SQL Server, and Exchange backup with an unlimited cloud storage allowance.

Cons

Windows server and database tiers cost substantially more: Server is 109.99 USD per year and SQL is 124.99 USD per year, well above the macOS/Linux Pro plan.
VAT is excluded from Desktop, Server, SQL, and Ultimate prices: The stated annual price is not the full cost where VAT applies.
No mobile backup: Phone and tablet protection requires another product.
Free support is forum-based: The no-cost plan does not include a stated direct support channel.

Alternatives

UrBackup is worth considering for a self-hosted, open-source file and image backup setup, with a free plan and support for Android as well as desktop platforms.
Amanda is a free, open-source project provided as-is, making it a possible fit for buyers prepared to use software without a stated support commitment.
Bareos offers a free open-source community edition with public repository access and complete source code for those who favor that model.
Proxmox Backup Server may suit buyers seeking Linux- and web-platform backup with unlimited backup storage and clients in its Community plan.
Storware Backup & Recovery is an alternative for API, Linux, self-hosted, and web environments, with a free license that excludes technical support.
Veeam Agent for Mac is a narrower macOS-only option; its free edition is limited to one backup job and does not back up directly to object storage.
Acronis Cyber Disaster Recovery Cloud is an alternative when disaster recovery cloud services and pay-as-you-go billing are the priority.
Datto Endpoint Backup for Windows is an alternative for buyers seeking consumption-based pricing tied to storage used.

Verdict

MSP360 Backup is a strong match for workstation users who want a free file-and-image plan and for organizations that need a defined Windows Server, SQL Server, or broader backup tier. Its recovery options and workload-specific plans are the main reasons to choose it. Look elsewhere for mobile backup, or compare carefully if VAT-excluded pricing and the higher server and database annual costs are a concern.
