Overview

Manhattan Active Inventory Replenishment is a cloud-based planning system for coordinating buying, allocation, and transfers across supply-chain locations. It is best suited to wholesale, health and life sciences, and retail organizations managing inventory across multiple nodes. Its strongest case is the combination of replenishment decisions and network-wide stock controls; its custom pricing and sales-led access make it less suitable for buyers seeking a quick, self-serve purchase.

Key features

Unifying replenishment with allocation gives planners a common basis for deciding what to buy, when, and in what quantities. Teams can compare safety-stock scenarios, automatically apply service and investment strategies, and analyze the cost of different replenishment frequencies. That is useful when service targets and inventory investment must be balanced across locations, rather than managed through isolated reorder rules.

Order review workflows support rules-based approvals and orders measured in dollars, weight, or volume. Pack-size requirements, spoilage and expiry revisions, new-item introductions, and seasonal lead-time adjustments help accommodate real ordering constraints. These controls make recommendations more adaptable to varied products, but they also call for consistent planning rules across the organization.

Multi-Echelon Inventory Optimization dynamically considers demand, lead times, and service goals across warehouses, distribution centers, and retail locations. The system can redistribute excess inventory, trigger transfers to help prevent out-of-stocks, draw on multiple transfer sources, and restrict moves involving high-risk or expiring stock. This network view is a strong fit for businesses that can shift inventory between nodes; it is less compelling for operations with few locations or little scope to transfer stock.

The platform runs on Manhattan's cloud-native ActivePlatform, built around API-first composable microservices, with feature updates every 90 days. ActivePlanning can be used on its own or unified with Manhattan Warehouse, Labor, Transportation, and Omnichannel solutions. Manhattan says its Active solutions are hosted and managed on Google Cloud Platform, with 24/7/365 operations, encryption, security monitoring, third-party penetration testing, and SOC 1, SOC 2, and SOC 3 audits in scope for the platform. Global support is available around the clock, alongside continuous application and infrastructure monitoring. This is a substantial operational framework, particularly for organizations already using Manhattan products; prospective buyers should assess the fit of that broader platform alongside replenishment.

Pricing

Manhattan Active Inventory Replenishment has custom pricing. Buyers must contact Manhattan or request a demo to assess the product and its cost. There is no free plan, and no trial terms are provided. That sales-led process may suit enterprise evaluations, but it is a drawback for teams that need to compare costs or begin using a tool without vendor involvement.

Platforms

The deployment is cloud-based, and the platform supports API access. Manhattan also identifies mobile app, barcode scanning, shipment tracking, order management, document management, fulfillment routing, returns management, demand planning, supplier management, logistics planning, fulfillment management, cycle counting, wave picking, and multiple-warehouse support. These capabilities point to a broad supply-chain footprint; buyers should distinguish the replenishment needs they are evaluating from the wider operational scope.

Who it's for

This is a strong candidate for wholesale, health and life sciences, and retail organizations that need to coordinate replenishment across multiple warehouses, distribution centers, or stores. Teams balancing service-level targets, safety stock, and transfers can make use of its connected planning controls. Smaller operations with simple purchasing cycles, limited stock movement, or a preference for transparent, self-serve pricing should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pros: Replenishment and allocation are unified, helping planners coordinate buying decisions rather than manage them as separate tasks.
Pros: Multi-echelon optimization and transfer controls account for demand, lead times, service goals, and restrictions on risky or expiring stock.
Pros: Manhattan's platform offers regular feature updates, API-first architecture, and round-the-clock support and security operations.
Cons: Custom pricing and a demo-led sales process make it difficult to evaluate cost through a self-serve purchase.
Cons: The breadth of controls and platform integrations may be excessive for businesses with straightforward replenishment needs or few locations.

Alternatives

Gurobi Optimizer is worth considering when a free, non-commercial option matters: its size-limited license costs 0.00 USD per free, with limits of 2,000 variables and 2,000 linear constraints, or 200 variables for models with integer variables. It also offers a free trial and runs across API, Linux, macOS, self-hosted, and Windows environments.

Logility Digital Supply Chain Platform is another paid, API- and web-based option; its default cloud pricing includes one production and one non-production environment.

OMP Unison Planning is a paid web-based alternative.

RELEX Solutions is a paid alternative with API and iOS platforms.

SAS Visual Statistics is a paid option for enterprise-scale statistical modeling on SAS Viya, with a free trial and self-hosted and web platforms.

Competera is a paid alternative focused on competitive price monitoring and AI-powered product matching, with pay-per-use billing among its plan details.

Descartes Customs and Regulatory Compliance is a paid alternative centered on customs and regulatory workflows, including imports, exports, and NCTS transit movements.

E2open Planning is a paid connected-planning alternative; pricing requires contacting e2open.

Verdict

Choose Manhattan Active Inventory Replenishment if your organization needs coordinated buying, allocation, and transfers across a complex inventory network, especially if it already uses Manhattan's supply-chain products. Its central advantage is bringing those decisions together with multi-echelon stock optimization. Look elsewhere if you need a simple reorder tool, an upfront price, or a self-serve trial before engaging a vendor.
