Overview

Weights & Biases brings experiment tracking, AI application monitoring, and model and dataset management into a platform for building models, applications, and agents. W&B Models covers experiments and hyperparameter optimization, Weave handles application tracing and evaluation, and Registry manages versioned models and datasets. That combination is compelling for teams moving from training into application development and production monitoring, though teams needing only one focused capability may not need the full platform.

Integrations include cloud providers, OpenAI, Meta, Amazon Bedrock, Anthropic, LangChain, and LlamaIndex. Deployment options span SaaS, dedicated, and customer-managed arrangements. The platform is certified to ISO/IEC 27001:2022, ISO/IEC 27017:2015, and ISO/IEC 27018:2019, and compliant with SOC 2 and HIPAA standards.

Key features

Experiment tracking: W&B Models tracks and visualizes machine-learning experiments, while Sweeps supports hyperparameter optimization. This is useful for comparing runs and tuning models without separating those tasks from the broader platform.
Application tracing and evaluation: Weave provides tracing, evaluations, and monitoring for AI applications and agents, extending the platform beyond model training into production-oriented work.
Model and dataset registry: Registry versions models and datasets and supports aliases, lineage, governance, and access control. These controls help teams manage assets as they move through development.
Lifecycle coverage: Capabilities include pipeline orchestration, model serving, managed compute, artifact storage, data and model versioning, deployment tracking, and model lineage. The breadth favors teams coordinating multiple stages of machine-learning work.
Mobile monitoring: The iOS app is described as a way to monitor experiments and training runs. Dedicated and on-premises deployments are not supported by the mobile app, which limits its usefulness for teams relying on those environments.

Pricing

The freemium offering ranges from individual use to custom Enterprise arrangements. The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per month (billed $0/mo) and includes 5 model seats, 5 GB/mo storage, and 1 GB/mo Weave data ingestion. Those caps make it a sensible starting point, but active teams may outgrow the storage or ingestion allowance.

Personal also costs 0.00 USD per month (billed $0/mo), with 1 user seat and personal projects only; corporate use is not allowed. It is for individual work, not a way for a company to adopt W&B at no cost.

Pro costs 60.00 USD per month (billed Starts at $60/month, billed monthly). It includes up to 10 model seats, 100 GB/mo storage, and 1.5 GB/mo Weave data ingestion, plus priority email and chat support. The larger quotas and faster support suit small teams, but the plan is intended for early-stage teams with fewer than 50 employees; customers exceeding that guideline must transition to Enterprise.

Enterprise uses custom pricing, invoiced annually upfront, with customizable seats, storage, and ingestion, enterprise support, and a single-tenant option. Advanced Enterprise also uses custom pricing and adds self-hosted deployment, enterprise features, and support. These tiers fit organizations that need tailored capacity or deployment control, but the annual upfront term is a meaningful commitment. A 30-day trial is available; Free includes community support.

Platforms

Weights & Biases supports API, iOS, Linux, macOS, self-hosted, web, and Windows. SaaS, dedicated, and customer-managed deployment choices make it adaptable to different operating arrangements, while the mobile app is specifically aimed at monitoring runs.

Who it's for

AI developers working on training, fine-tuning, application development, or production monitoring are the clearest fit, especially when they want experiments, evaluations, and model or dataset governance in one environment. Individuals can use Personal for personal projects, and early-stage teams can consider Pro within its employee guideline. Organizations that require self-hosting can look to Advanced Enterprise; corporate users should not treat the Personal plan as a substitute.

Pros and cons

Pro: Experiment tracking, application evaluation, and model and dataset management sit within one platform, reducing the need to assemble those capabilities separately.
Pro: Registry includes versioning, aliases, lineage, governance, and access control, useful for teams managing assets across development.
Pro: Deployment choices include SaaS, dedicated, and customer-managed options, with self-hosted deployment in Advanced Enterprise.
Con: Free storage and Weave ingestion are capped at 5 GB/mo and 1 GB/mo, respectively, so heavier workloads may need a paid tier.
Con: Personal permits one seat and personal projects only, excluding corporate use.
Con: Pro's employee guideline means a growing organization may need to move to Enterprise, whose annual upfront billing and custom pricing are less straightforward to budget.
Con: The iOS app does not support dedicated or on-premises deployments.

Verdict

Choose Weights & Biases if your AI work spans experiment tracking, application evaluation and monitoring, and managed model or dataset assets: its breadth and deployment options are the main reasons to adopt it. Look elsewhere if you need unrestricted free team use, a simpler single-purpose tool, or clearer Enterprise costs before committing.
