Overview

BlueNotary is an online notarization service for individuals, independent notaries and organizations handling remote signings. It is most compelling when you need repeatable business workflows or an API connection, while occasional users can start with its free general-notary plan.

Its mix of live notarization, business tools and integration options covers a broad range of workflows, but its stated transaction exclusions matter for real estate teams with eNote or eVault requirements.

Key features

Customers upload documents, meet a notary over live video and download the completed notarized files. That end-to-end process suits people who want the notarization itself handled remotely. Independent notaries can use general notary work tools and an electronic journal without a subscription.

Business accounts can create sessions, invite signers and witnesses, reuse templates, customize customer emails and save contacts. Those features reduce setup work for repeat transactions; they are less consequential for a single document. The REST API and webhooks extend the workflow to other systems, including session creation, document uploads, participant invitations, status tracking and retrieval of completed files.

Branded portals and customized workflows support organizations that want notarization to fit their own customer experience. White-label setup requires a custom business email domain, so it is a less immediate fit for businesses without one. BlueNotary says it verifies signers through knowledge-based authentication, government ID profiling and biometric scanning. It also states that it is MISMO accredited and SOC 2 certified, with annual third-party audits. Audio/video recordings, audit logs and documents are retained for 10 years; documents are encrypted with X509 PKI.

BlueNotary supports remote online notarization, eSignature and hybrid eClosings. It does not offer eNote creation, eVaulting or MERS eRegistry integration, which rules it out for workflows that depend on those capabilities.

Pricing

The Basic GNW plan is free. It includes unlimited general notary work, an electronic journal, session recordings stored for 10 years and email support. It is the natural starting point for independent notaries focused on general notary work, but it does not include the loan-signing and business-account benefits of paid tiers.

Pro Hybrid costs $27.00 USD per month. It includes unlimited loan signings, unlimited seals, templates, multiple participants and priority chat and email support. Each signing package also carries a $25 service fee, so the monthly price is not the full cost of using the plan. It suits notaries handling loan signings who value templates and faster support.

Business Pro Plan costs $47.00 USD per seat per month and is designed for businesses using their own notary. It includes two free general notary work sessions; each session after that costs $10. Additional stamps cost $0, while each additional signer costs $5. Per-seat pricing and transaction charges make the total dependent on team size and usage, but the plan offers a clear fit for businesses managing sessions with their own notary.

Platforms

BlueNotary supports web, iOS, Android and API access. Mobile support is through the mobile web, rather than a separately specified native mobile experience.

Who it's for

Independent notaries can start with free general notary work, while loan-signing specialists may find Pro Hybrid's unlimited signings and templates more useful despite the per-package fee. Businesses that manage repeat signings, use their own notary or need an API workflow have more reason to consider the per-seat Business Pro Plan. Real estate customers should confirm that the supported transaction types match their process, especially if they require eNote creation, eVaulting or MERS eRegistry integration.

Pros and cons

Pro: The free Basic GNW plan includes unlimited general notary work and a 10-year recording-retention period, making it a substantial starting point for general-notary workflows.
Pro: Business sessions, templates, API access and webhooks support repeat transactions and integration with an organization's own processes.
Pro: Support for RON, eSignature and hybrid eClosings gives the service more than one transaction path.
Con: Pro Hybrid adds a $25 service fee for each signing package, on top of its $27.00 USD monthly price.
Con: Business Pro Plan is charged per seat and adds costs for sessions beyond the first two and for additional signers.
Con: No eNote creation, eVaulting or MERS eRegistry integration limits its fit for some real estate workflows.
Con: White-label setup requires a custom business email domain.

Verdict

BlueNotary is a strong fit for independent notaries and businesses that want remote sessions with reusable workflows, API options or hybrid eClosing support. The free Basic GNW plan lowers the barrier to trying general notary work, while paid plans add loan-signing and business capabilities. Look elsewhere if your process requires eNote creation, eVaulting or MERS eRegistry integration, or if the signing-package and per-seat charges do not fit your expected usage.
