Overview

Bizagi Modeler is a BPMN-focused tool for turning business processes into diagrams and supporting documentation. It is best suited to individual process modelers and organizations that want to pair process maps with simulation and publishing. Its free plan is substantial for solo work, but shared editing and cloud storage sit behind Enterprise.

Key features

Alongside BPMN process diagrams, Bizagi supports value chain diagrams. The free plan includes simulation and what-if scenarios, so individual users can explore possible process changes as well as document an existing workflow. That makes the free tier more useful for process analysis than a diagram-only tool, though the one-user limit rules it out as a shared workspace.

Import options include Visio, XPDL, Bizagi, XML, and BPMN. Exports cover images, Visio, XPDL, XML, BPMN, Word, PDF, web, SharePoint, and Wiki. That range can help when teams inherit models from other tools or need to circulate documentation in formats suited to different audiences. Web and SharePoint publishing offer ways to distribute process documentation without asking every reader to work inside the modeler.

Enterprise adds a cloud repository, comments on diagrams and shapes, an activity stream, and unlimited editors and contributors. These features make it the relevant tier for teams coordinating model changes; the free tier's local-only storage means collaboration otherwise depends on sharing files outside the product. Version history is available, while real-time collaboration is supported.

Bizagi says its cloud service encrypts network traffic and is monitored by its Cloud Operations team around the clock. Enterprise customers can choose a data location from ten centers across the United States, Europe, and Asia, which is useful for organizations with regional data-location needs.

Pricing

Free costs 0.00 USD per free and includes one user, unlimited processes and models, simulation, and local storage. It is a compelling option for a solo modeler building a process library, but there is no cloud repository or team editing in this plan.

Enterprise has custom pricing. It includes unlimited editors and contributors, unlimited models and diagrams, and storage defined according to customer needs. Teams that need a shared repository and in-product collaboration will need this plan; its custom pricing means they should request a quote before budgeting.

Platforms

Bizagi Modeler is available on web and Windows, with a desktop app as well as the web option. That gives Windows users a desktop choice, while web access serves users who prefer a browser-based workflow.

Who it's for

Choose Bizagi Modeler if BPMN documentation, what-if simulation, and flexible publishing matter more than having a cloud workspace on the free tier. It fits solo analysts and process owners especially well. Teams that need shared editing can consider Enterprise, while anyone needing a free, multi-user cloud repository should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pro: The free plan combines unlimited models and processes with simulation and what-if scenarios, giving solo users room to build and examine a process library.
Pro: Broad import and export options, including SharePoint and web publishing, support both moving diagrams between tools and sharing documentation.
Con: Free use is limited to one user and local storage, so it does not provide a shared team repository.
Con: Cloud storage and collaboration features require Enterprise, whose price is custom rather than a published fixed fee.

Alternatives

HEFLO is worth considering if cloud-stored diagrams and mobile access matter: its free Academic plan includes cloud storage, image downloads, and import/export, with Android, iOS, and web platforms.

Camunda is an alternative for readers seeking a broader deployment range, including Linux, macOS, self-hosted, and API platforms; its free Self-Managed Development plan covers local development and testing.

Bonita may suit readers who want a free plan with a stated monthly process-instance allowance; Bonita Free permits 150 process instances per month.

Crismo is another freemium option, with a free Individual plan for BPMN 2.0 modeling, diagram versioning, and basic PNG and PDF exports.

ADONIS is a web-based alternative with a Community Edition configured for one seat and a single user.

GBTEC Process Design is a paid alternative with a SaaS subscription tailored by quotation and a free trial.

ProcessMind has a free plan for one member with full process access and unlimited models, making it an option for an individual seeking a cloud-oriented process tool.

Flowable is another alternative, with Apache 2.0-licensed engines and support for self-hosted and web use.

Verdict

Bizagi Modeler is a strong choice for solo users who want BPMN modeling, simulation, and extensive publishing options without paying for a subscription. Its decisive drawback is the free plan's local-only, single-user setup; teams that need a shared cloud repository and collaboration should budget for Enterprise or compare alternatives.
