Overview

Automation Anywhere Document Automation is designed to take information from business documents, check it, and carry that data into workflows. It handles a broad mix of material, including emails, contracts, invoices, spreadsheets, purchase orders, medical reports, and tax forms. Its stated document support also covers handwriting, barcodes, and tables.

The product combines natural language processing, computer vision, generative AI, and machine learning to classify documents and extract and validate their contents. Automation Co-Pilot can place extracted information into existing applications and validate it as part of the work being done there. Human approvals and workflow routing provide ways to connect document handling with review and subsequent business steps.

Automation Anywhere is headquartered in San Jose, California, USA, and was founded in 2003. The company describes applications in finance, banking, healthcare, human resources, logistics, and manufacturing. Its Cloud Extraction Service is said to process large-scale extraction up to five times faster; that claim is specific to the service and is not a general performance guarantee for every workload.

Key features

Document classification and extraction: AI methods classify incoming material and extract information from varied document formats, including content with handwriting, barcodes, or tables.
Validation and approvals: Extracted data can be validated, with human approvals available when a workflow requires review.
Workflow connection: Automation Co-Pilot can place and validate extracted data inside existing applications. Workflow routing and automation connect processing to business operations.
Integrations and APIs: Listed integrations include Salesforce, SAP BAPI, ServiceNow, Workday, Google Drive, Microsoft 365, OpenAI, and Azure Cognitive Services. REST and SOAP are supported.
Wider automation tools: The platform lists scheduled runs, task clustering, automation opportunities, and task-level maps, alongside service catalog, employee portal, knowledge base, and asset management capabilities.
Security and support: The platform states that data at rest is encrypted with AES-256 and communications use SSL/TLS. Its listed certifications include SOC 1 Type 2, SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, HITRUST, and ISO 22301. Technical support plans are available for business requirements, while Community Edition users can access community support.

Pricing

Automation Anywhere lists a free Community Edition plan at 0.00 USD per free. Document Automation is included for eligible small businesses, which may use up to five machines and process or upload up to 100 pages per month. This allowance is a defined limit, so organizations with larger document volumes should confirm whether it fits their needs.

The pricing model is paid for business use, but the Document Automation product page displays no business price. Prospective business buyers are directed to book a demo or contact the company, so costs need to be requested rather than compared from a published rate.

Platforms

The listed platforms are API, macOS, web, and Windows. Desktop support specifically names Windows 10 and Windows 11, as well as Citrix VDI on Windows Server 2016. The capture method is a desktop agent. The available platform details do not specify equivalent desktop-agent support across every listed platform.

Who it's for

Document Automation is aimed at organizations that need to process documents as one part of a larger workflow, rather than simply store or view files. Finance and banking teams may have document-heavy processes, while healthcare, human resources, logistics, and manufacturing are also among the maker-described use cases.

It may suit teams seeking document classification, extraction, validation, approvals, routing, and connections to business applications through APIs or named integrations. Eligible small businesses can assess the included Community Edition within its five-machine and 100-page monthly limits. Businesses that need higher volumes should request pricing and clarify the plan scope before committing.

Pros and cons

Pros: Broad document coverage; multiple AI methods for classification, extraction, and validation; human approval and workflow-routing capabilities; integrations and REST/SOAP support; a limited free Community Edition.
Cons: Business pricing is not published; the free allowance is capped at 100 pages per month and five machines for eligible small businesses; detailed desktop support is specified for Windows environments rather than all listed platforms.

Alternatives

For a broader look at this category, compare options in AI Document Processing Software. Organizations whose priority is process discovery can also review Task Mining Software, while teams focused on automating repetitive tasks may consider Robotic Process Automation Software.

Other products to compare include Microsoft Power Automate for workflow automation and EdgeVerve AssistEdge for automation needs. These alternatives have different scopes, so the right comparison depends on whether document extraction, workflow orchestration, or broader automation is the main requirement.

Verdict

Automation Anywhere Document Automation brings document understanding and workflow execution together: it can classify and extract information, validate it, and connect it to applications and review steps. The range of supported document types and listed integrations makes it relevant to organizations with varied operational paperwork. Its strongest practical caveats are commercial and operational: business pricing requires direct inquiry, and the free option is limited to eligible small businesses with a defined monthly page and machine allowance. Buyers should confirm platform fit, expected document volume, and pricing before choosing it for production workflows.
