Overview

Wakeline is a no-code platform for creating in-app guidance and measuring how users respond to it. It is best suited to product, success, and marketing teams that need to change onboarding without engineering tickets. Its combination of an on-page builder and activation analytics is compelling, though meaningful targeting and analytics start at Pro.

Key features

Teams can create tours, checklists, tooltips, banners, and surveys on live app pages. Point-and-click placement, including on signed-in pages through the browser extension, helps teams work in the actual product rather than staging guide steps against a separate page. The browser-based approach supports React, Vue, Angular, Svelte, Rails, Django, WordPress, and plain HTML; the homepage describes a roughly 24 KB asynchronous SDK installed with one script.

More than 45 templates and AI-generated draft steps from a described onboarding goal can speed up initial authoring. They are starting points, not a substitute for deciding what users need to learn. Targeting by visitor status, user traits, saved segments, page or event triggers, and frequency caps gives teams control over who sees guidance and when.

Per-step translations, automatic language detection, and fallback help teams serve users across languages. Reporting covers starts, completions, drop-offs, clicks, survey responses, and trends; session replay and A/B testing are also among the features. Those capabilities make Wakeline useful for iterating on onboarding, but its data-tool, Slack, and other stack integrations are still coming soon, which may matter to teams that rely on connected workflows.

Wakeline says traffic is encrypted in transit, credentials are bcrypt-hashed, and the SDK key is restricted to reading published guides and writing interaction events. Sensitive inputs such as passwords, emails, and phone numbers are masked by default before replay data leaves the browser. Customers set replay retention from 1 to 365 days, with 30 days as the default. The policy says Wakeline does not sell personal information or use end-user data for advertising, and treats customers as controllers and itself as processor for SDK end-user data.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and allows 3 flows, 1,000 monthly active users, and 1 teammate, with community support. It is a practical way for a solo user to try a small set of guides, but the flow and seat caps leave little room for a growing team.

Pro costs 41.00 USD per month, billed annually. It raises the limits to 25 flows, 25,000 monthly active users, and 5 teammates, and adds audience targeting, analytics, localization, and email support. This is the sensible tier for teams that need to segment and measure guidance, but annual billing is the stated term.

Business costs 166.00 USD per month, billed annually. It includes unlimited flows and teammates, 250,000 monthly active users, CSV export, and priority support. SSO is marked as soon, so it should not be treated as a currently included capability. Enterprise has custom pricing and custom MAU and flow limits, plus SAML SSO and SCIM, security review and DPA, a dedicated success manager, and an uptime SLA. It fits organizations that need negotiated capacity or those enterprise provisions.

Platforms

Wakeline supports Android, iOS, web, and browser extension. Its browser-based implementation and broad framework and site-platform support make it relevant to teams working across varied web stacks, while mobile platforms are also included.

Who it's for

Wakeline is a strong fit for product, success, and marketing teams that want to publish and adjust in-app guidance themselves, then use engagement data to refine it. The Free plan can suit a single teammate validating a few flows. Teams needing more users, targeting, localization, or analytics will need Pro or above; organizations that depend on integrations already connected to Slack or data tools should weigh the wait for those integrations.

Pros and cons

Pros: On-page placement, including signed-in pages, supports guidance built around the real product experience.
Pros: Targeting, localization, and interaction reporting give teams tools to tailor and evaluate guides.
Pros: Free access includes 3 flows and 1,000 monthly active users, and paid tiers define clear capacity and teammate limits.
Cons: Free is limited to one teammate and does not include the Pro targeting, analytics, and localization features.
Cons: Pro requires annual billing, and Business SSO is not yet available.
Cons: Integrations with data tools, Slack, and other stack tools are still coming soon.

Alternatives

Clew is worth considering for a small team that wants a free plan with one site, one seat, up to three published tours, and a month of analytics history; its Pro plan is 14.99 USD per mo. Driver.js is a free option for readers who want unlimited projects and personal or commercial use without attribution. Usertour suits teams that prioritize open source and self-hosting: its core is MIT-licensed, publicly available, and can be self-hosted with Docker. Candu may fit teams focused on overlays, with a free plan for three live experiences and unlimited user licenses. Guidez is another freemium option; its Hobby plan includes 100 MAU per month, one team member, and one environment. Shepherd is a freemium web alternative. Appcues is a paid alternative with a free trial and plans that include published-experience and reporting-history allowances. HelpHero is a paid option with a free trial; its 1,000-MAU plan costs 55.00 USD per month and includes standard and advanced features.

Verdict

Choose Wakeline if your team wants to build guidance on live pages and connect targeting with measures of user response, without routing every change through engineering. Its Free plan makes a small-scale start possible, but the one-seat cap and Pro's annual term are real constraints; look elsewhere if integrations are essential now or if you need broader free-tier capacity.
