Overview

Geektastic is a technical assessment service for hiring software engineers, with short multiple-choice screens and longer coding challenges. It best suits teams that want expert feedback on take-home work; the trade-off is that those reviews and the platform carry separate fees.

Key features

Express challenges take about 30 minutes, while take-home challenges take around two hours. The shorter format can help teams screen candidates quickly; the longer exercise gives candidates room to demonstrate coding ability, but asks a substantial time commitment.

Geektastic’s human review team evaluates take-home submissions and returns detailed feedback. Reviews are aimed at a 24-hour turnaround, which can stretch to 48 hours during high-volume periods. Teams can also bring their own challenges: Geektastic ports them to the service and reviews them against tailored guidelines. That flexibility is useful when a standard assessment does not match a team’s hiring needs, though custom work has an upfront fee.

Supported areas include JavaScript, Java, PHP, C#, Python, Swift, Android, AWS, Terraform, Ansible and CI/CD. Integrations with Greenhouse, Lever and Workable let teams send invitations and view results in their ATS, but the integration is an additional monthly cost. Geektastic says reviews are anonymous and that it is GDPR compliant, uses SSL encryption and does not store passwords in plain text. All plans include 24/7 support.

Pricing

Geektastic has a free Express tier with 50 assessed candidates per month and two seats. Additional candidates cost 3.00 USD per candidate, so the free option is most attractive to teams screening within that monthly cap. Extra Express seats cost 50.00 USD per seat.

For take-home assessments, the platform fee is 350.00 USD per month, including two seats; code reviewers are free. Each review by Geektastic’s experts costs 95.00 USD. Teams licensing a challenge from Geektastic’s library pay 70.00 USD per month per challenge plus 7.00 USD per use. Extra take-home admin seats cost 50.00 USD each. These recurring and per-use charges make the take-home option less suited to occasional hiring than the free Express tier.

Custom work has one-time fees: 65.00 USD to port an existing multiple-choice challenge, or 195.00 USD for a bespoke Express challenge. ATS integration costs 130.00 USD per month. Weigh those charges against the value of matching assessments to your process and keeping invitations and results in your ATS.

Platforms

Geektastic is available on the web and through an API. Its focus is hiring-team assessment workflows rather than a broad set of device-specific apps.

Who it's for

Geektastic fits software engineering hiring teams that want a quick screening format alongside reviewed take-home code, or need custom challenges and ATS workflows. The free Express tier can serve small-volume screening; teams using take-home reviews should budget for both the monthly platform fee and per-review costs. It is less compelling for teams that want only occasional coding assessments or cannot ask candidates to spend around two hours on an exercise.

Pros and cons

Pros: Human-reviewed take-home submissions come with detailed feedback, which gives hiring teams more than an automated score.
Pros: Teams can adapt assessments to their own challenges and use integrations with Greenhouse, Lever or Workable.
Pros: The free Express tier includes 50 candidates per month and two seats, with 24/7 support across plans.
Cons: Take-home assessments require a 350.00 USD monthly platform fee as well as a 95.00 USD per-review charge.
Cons: Express candidates beyond the 50-per-month allowance cost 3.00 USD each, and additional seats have separate fees.
Cons: Take-home challenges take around two hours, a significant request of candidates compared with the roughly 30-minute Express format.

Verdict

Choose Geektastic if your engineering hiring process benefits from expert-reviewed take-home code, tailored challenges or ATS-connected workflows. Its free Express tier is a sensible starting point for lower-volume screening, but the take-home platform fee and per-review costs are the main reasons to look elsewhere if hiring is occasional or budgets are tight.
