What Svipe iD is

Svipe iD helps organizations verify customers, members and employees using digital identity documents. Its mobile app reads data from a document’s NFC chip and checks it cryptographically. Supported documents include passports and some national identity and residence cards marked with the “Chip Inside” symbol; driver’s licenses are not supported. Svipe says it covers biometric identity documents from more than 130 countries, while its homepage describes coverage of 140+ countries. Organizations connect through OpenID Connect and can register applications for free in the developer portal; documented integrations include WordPress, Matrix, Nextcloud, Mattermost and Keycloak. After identity verification, Svipe iD can support passwordless login, step-up authentication and account recovery. An optional face check compares the user to the signed document photo and uses AI liveness detection. The app can also hold third-party credentials, such as medical certificates or access authorizations, linked to an identity. Document data is stored encrypted on the user's phone, and personal document data is erased from Svipe's servers within 24 hours of registration, according to its FAQ.
